Snow daze

Everything is bright white outside. When the sun breaks through the clouds I'm blinded by the reflection of light. The trees look like they are growing snow. Some of them were budding, but now belatedly realize that it was all a cruel joke. Most are sagging, and some big branches too burdened with the weight of snow litter the ground. The cats are running from window to window to watch as the snow falls in sheets from the roof. The garden has a smooth, pillowy texture that conceals the diversity of life that is hibernating below. In the woods, all sound is deadened except for the creaking of wind blown trees. Birds and critters lay low casting a stillness to the air. The chill feels refreshing and clean. The steam from my breath reveals the energy that I recycle as I trudge through the snow. At night when the full moon comes out, the tree branches will cast eery shadows on the white ground.
