Vash has this same thing, but I think you're putting too much into it. At least, this is how I handle it. For whatever REASONS, Vash can always pick out good people from bad, and find the good in any bad person, you almost never see him in a situation he doesn't know how to handle because he can be simpering to one person and firm with another and he knows who to pull out guns with and who to not and SOMEHOW he reads people. Really well.
But that doesn't mean, in the reading, he knows everything about them. And I think this is the same with Tamaki. He knew that girl was up to something, but only for certain once th einformation was there. I.E. Tamaki might have gotten the feeling that "Princess Michelle" was jealous or cruel or not trust worthy, but that doesn't mean he knows instantly "oh she's harassing other girls!". But when Haruhi's things are thrown out a window, when Haruhi who would not molest or fight with a girl is put in a position where it looks like that. Tamaki is smart enough to draw intelligent conclusions based on what he knows and can 'sense' of their personality.
It really shouldn't be hard to work in. Don't think of it so much as knowing what the person has done or been through, but as what kind of person they are. Are they honest? Bitter? Hateful? Depressed? Lonely? Etc. Knowing these things about a person will lead to Tamaki picking up on more about them in conversation that your other characters might skip over or shrug off. I.E. With Vash this means that while anyone else might go "Wow, The Hitachiin twins are nuts for freaking out when Rue only flirted with them" Vash gets the sense that it has less to do with Rue OR the hitting on, and more to do with the fact that the Twin's lives revolve around each other. Because it's not the sexuality that makes them uncomfortable, it's the "someone who isn't a twin"-ness.
...I have infact been spending the past couple of days thinking "Wow, Tamaki and Vash are a lot alike".
FOR FIVE!
I don't think it's that different, actually. When we see Tamaki TRY to work a job and fail miserably, he doesn't fail becaue he doesn't try, it fails because he's no good at that sort of thing. Is it possible that Tamaki raised HELL at his part time job? Did he break things and mess up recipes and forget orders? Tamaki IS a hard worker, he's just not good at everything, but he's not the sort to give up. I can see him pulling it off, if not with a good deal of comical strife in the process.
Okay, on two!
