I need to get fitted for a bike for the Danskin triathlon (my second! woo!), but I know next to nothing about bikes. I'm looking for an awesome bike shop on the north side of the aurora bridge that is not going to take advantage of a bike idiot. I'm not trying to get a cheap bike, but a deal wouldn't hurt.

Any recommendations? Any shops to avoid?

I have exactly $400 including tax to spend, and I need a bike that isn't going to constantly have its gears slipping or die on me halfway through a season. Preferably new, but I can handle used. I'm just sick of paying $50 for a bike that lasts me two weeks and is "not worth the tune-up" when I take it in ( Read more... )

It's gotten to the point where I'm fat and gas is unaffordable. So I want a commuter bike. Here's the catch though: I haven't ridden a bike since I was 12 and I'm a grad student, hence poorness. I ran Seattle through Mapquest and opted out "highways" so as to find a route that would logically be bicycle friendly. It gave me this one suggesting Pacific Highway. I've never driven that road, let alone attempted to bike it. Is it doable? And more importantly, is it safe?

In the last week I've gotten to do a ton of biking on the trail. For the most part I'm a pretty stalwart defender of vocally "signalling" to pass with a customary "on the left" warning. Although I don't think it's necessary EVERY time, I do think it's safe and courteous ( Read more... )
