Any former Bostonians here? My boyfriend and I are being forced to move across the country to avoid academic incest, and we're pretty sure that buying a place is better than renting. Unfortunately our experience with Boston is relatively limited and he'll only have a few free days to look at properties before he has to head down to Woods Hole to start classes. I have a more flexible schedule and can do some footwork, but not until August, which would be very difficult to close before we're both very busy in September.
Any advice on neighborhoods that are similar to Ballard, Wallingford and Greenwood/Phinney?
We're generally boring and like quiet (especially at night), but like small cafes, shops and public transit. Right now we're focused on Quincy and have an agent specifically looking for us there, but I'm worried it's too suburban/industrial. Also, we're kind of poor in Boston standards, so we definitely can't do the fancy neighborhoods.
