So painful, but beautiful, too. How I wish it had happened in cannon.

OMG

OMG

*tears up*

Seriously. I always forget how pitch-perfect your Buffy and Spike are until I encounter them anew. I want this to be a missing scene. It's part of my personal canon now. Compassionate, wounded, resilient, self-denying, loving... that's my Buffy. This is so wonderful.

This makes me want more of your writing! I love your voices. I too think this could be canon, and fitb is always welcome to me.

You captured Spike's changing moods perfectly, as well as his insanity on the edge of reason. Your description of Buffy's willingness to touch Spike while being unwilling to be touched brought to life a meta-concept that I've always seen but have never crystalized so perfectly.

Thanks for sharing this!

Thanks! Haha, I'll try to deliver.

It's funny but I don't remember consciously thinking about the touching thing before in that way. When I write in character, it's like things I understand are expressed for the first time.

It's funny because I started writing a season 7 fic for this round that addressed the same thing, so I was thinking about it, but then I put that on hold for now.

That sounds like an amazing fic. I'd love to read it!

Just lovely. All the pain and all the hopes that were met by the end of the season. *sniffles*

I so wish that this had happened in canon. It's truly beautiful and yet so sad. We saw so little of this time between them. This shows how beautiful Buffy's soul might have been. She was afraid, but still saw the man inside of the monster.

Thank you. I think, you know, that this fits into canon. Spike had to get his duster returned to him when he was living in the basement and Buffy's the only one I can see giving it back to him. Dawn was so angry with him over the summer (and still) that she probably would've burned it. And I think the feelings Buffy has for Spike--these are all there underneath the surface, she's just too afraid to show them. My take!
