It's about four feet tall. White lights. Various garlands: small felted balls, wooden cranberries, silver beaded. An assortment of handmade and vintage ornaments from blown glass/mercury glass (my father gave me a set of small vintage "feather tree" ornaments about 30 years ago) to gingerbread people and scandinavian pixies, to beeswax ornaments, ( Read more... )

I love putting up our tree! We’re planning to do ours tonight. Yours sounds lovely <3

I usually try to take our tree down on epiphany / twelfth night.

Is your avatar from Elf? That film cracks me up. Ordinarily I can only take Will Farrell in limited doses, but his enthusiasm is so infectious in that film. "Smiling's my favorite!"........"SANTA!!!!! I KNOW him!!!!!!" LOLOL

Our tree is going up early this year, says me - Friday or Saturday. I've already prepared fir and cedar boughs and decorated the front and back porches. We were caught twice with sudden early snowstorms, so I've not been able to forage for wreath materials yet. I always make a square wreath for the front door.

I pick a colour theme for the Christmas tree. Some years it's silver, gold and green, some years it's every colour under the sun, some years it's red. I haven't had a blue Christmas in a long time.

The main colours in the front parlour are ivory, gold and grey-green. I'm either going with the silver, gold and green or I'll splash red all over everything. This may be the year that needs the warmth of red. I don't have photos to influence me yet.

I have that glass nativity.

What about silver, gold, green and a dash of red? As in "a few vintage red glass ornaments, a red poinsettia and red dessert dishes?"

I like the idea of a color theme. If I had more than one tree or space in which to decorate (ie, more room) I'd consider that. I quite like the idea of blue too, alas, I have only a handful of blue decorations. Blue against evergreen is gorgeous. Ahhhhhhhhhh.................I so love this time of year ( ... )

OH!!!! And PS........I think I bought that Nativity from one of the wee beasties when they were having some kind of school fund raising campaign...........you know, the kind where they sell Christmas wrap, tins of caramel corn etc........ I'd rather have a different kind of creche, and may one day, but for now that'll do ( ... )

I would have taken the Nutshell Version over the "No Version at All Version", which sets one up as ignorant instead of misguided. It's a particularly insidious form of doinkery and serves no one.

I like Nativity sets and have a few. One is in a space-age plastic bubble and I never really know what do do with it, but it persists.
