So I've been wondering this for awhile.
12 You Should Always Buy Organic:
(according to the Environmental Working Group)
* Peaches
* Apples
* Sweet bell peppers
* Celery
* Nectarines
* Strawberries
* Cherries
* Lettuce
* Grapes (imported)
* Pears
* Spinach
* Potatoes
This is out of 43 tested vegetables.
And according to Consumers Report:
Cranberries
Nectarines
Peaches
Strawberries
Pears
Apples
Cherries
Cantaloupe
Green beans
Sweet bell peppers
Celery
Cucumbers
Potatoes
Tomatoes
Peas
Lettuce
SO that gives us a grand list of:
Fruits:
Cranberries
Nectarines
Peaches
Strawberries
Pears
Apples
Cherries
Cantaloupe
Veggies:
Green beans
Sweet bell peppers
Celery
Cucumbers
Potatoes
Tomatoes
Peas
Lettuce
Spinach
And these are in descending order of toxicity, except for spinach. I dont know where that belongs.
I guess your wasting your money on the other stuff.
And some facts about Organic;
If the package says Organic it means without conventional pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, antibiotics, growth hormones, genetic engineering, or irradiation.
"100% organic" means that if theres multiple ingredients in a product (like cereal) then they are all organic.
"organic" means 95% of the ingredients are such.
"Made with organic materials" means at least 70% organic ingredients.
Theres no governmental rating system for organic seafood. But one of my TAs did all her graduate research on that topic and was creating a system with a non-profit (where are they?)
