I was planning on getting this out by Sunday (which turned into Monday, which turned into Tuesday), but by gum I was sure it would be done by today, and so: Don't Hang Me v0.40b(eta) officially had its first build around 3am today.
Unfortunately, no one but me can play it. I suppose what I really mean to say is: Don't Hang Me v0.39a(lpha) officially had its second-to-most-recent build around 3am today.
C++ is very temperamental. What works in Debug mode won't necessarily work in Release mode. What works in Release mode won't necessarily work in the executable. The latter is my current problem.
By virtue of its compiled state, it's nearly impossible to debug if the problem isn't reported until it hits one of the standard C++ libraries. Fortunately, it's failing RIGHT AWAY, which means whatever is happening is happening before the window gets drawn, which means it's a problem with the game's scripting system. At least, that's where the present problem lies; who knows where others may be.
So, rather than the happy announcement I was going to make, I have this. Hopefully I will get this solved by the weekend (tonight, if I'm feeling REALLY optimistic and lucky), so I won't have to delay it much longer, and then you all can download this 7MB zip file I've been working on so hard for the last several, months and go, "that's it"?
This will make my final victory all the sweeter.
