Where do I find out what's coming? A quick guide.

Aug 22, 2013 10:12

I get asked, a lot, about what I have coming out. Where can it be found, where is the schedule, has something been published, has something been sold. Which is incredibly flattering, honestly-what author doesn't want to have people beating down her door to find out where they can get more stories?-but can also lead to that thing where I have ( Read more... )

I'm sure that even Jedi Mind Tricks (*Handwave* "This is not project you are looking for") get tiresome after a while.

They really, really do. I hate refusing to answer direct questions, and I hate "ooooh you're not answering and that means..." response even more.

"Indexing is not currently listed, because there is no "serials" category; I'm still trying to figure out how to deal with that."

If you don't plan on doing future serials, Indexing could probably wait until it is complete and listable in the Novels category. It might become cumbersome to have things under Serials for a time, the move them to Novels when they're complete and published as a whole. Or it could be cool. Or cumbersome AND cool. Or cause for confusion and more questions... arrg!

Hence the need to figure it out. :) I'll probably wait and just list it as a novel; I don't want to make entries for every. Single. Installment.

And each installment is so conveniently listed as it comes out on the Amazon product page, anyway. So the information is out there for those who seek it.

Since Indexing is not her first serial (Sparrow Hill Road, Velveteen) it likely isn't her last either.

I went back and had another look at the list of upcoming publications, just to remind myself that Yes, There Are So Good Things Coming.

By the way, I'm almost done rereading all the October Daye books, partly in anticipation of the new one, and partly because my brain hurt and your work makes it better. :)

Just curious and will completely understand and will not ever mention it again if you say you can't talk about it but I've seen Lycanthropy and Other Personal Issues on the lists for a long time and I see that it's currently undergoing revisions and was just wondering if it has been sold but no release date currently set or if it's one that is currently being shopped?

If you ask about something that's not in one of those two places, I will not discuss its status with you. I will say "yes, I wrote that," and move on. Pressuring me for details will just frustrate us both, because you won't get what you want and I'll feel like my boundaries aren't being respected. I actively want to publish everything, because let's face it, that's how I pay the bills, but this is a very long game.

Yes, I wrote that.

The only problem with in inchworm posts is that it doesn't tell us what things are.
I know there is a good reason you don't tell us about the things that are currently being written but some of the stuff that has a publication date are things I can't find information on your website, blog or on google search. I've no idea what "Homecoming," or "Train Yard Blues," is but I don't think we are allowed to ask questions on the posts.
Since Im asking annoying questions can I ask for some information on the short story in Chimes at Midnight. The first I heard of it was on the cover art. Is Toby the main character like in Through this House or is it someone else like Rat catcher and is it set after Chimes at midnight or before like In Sea Tears?

That's because I don't really advertise what short stories are about, and never have. They're short stories; they appear when they appear; they have very condensed topics. I can't really give a summary of everything in the inchworm posts, or they would become impossible to write. "Homecoming" is about football. "Train Yard Blues" is a Rose Marshall story.

You can sometimes find details by checking the "short fiction" and "publishing news" tags.

No information has been released regarding the short story in Chimes at Midnight.
