"Really, I'm glad that the media does us this service--thank goodness they're here to take a case, blow it out of proportion, present minimal evidence or facts of any sort, and then talk about it 24/7."
This is a sentence for which there is no Earthly purpose. This case hasn't been blown out of proportion - the woman has accused three people of raping her. That's big news. Rape is big. Also, I don't know when I gave you the impression that I get my news from FOX and CNN. Newspapers and magazines have been covering this relentlessly, and as the defense team has been releasing all the evidence they plan to use in court, these publications have been presenting that evidence. The prosecutor has been quoted as saying something to the effect of "Despite all the evidence so far, I'm still convinced that this woman was raped by these boys." And, at a rally supporting the woman at the accuser's black college (NC Central): "As long as I'm here, this case isn't going away."
Nifong is facing a three-way Democratic primary election the day after the trial starts. He's never been elected before, he was appointed last year. Durham's population is 45% black, and he's facing a black opponent in the primary. The only hasty opinion here is that of the prosecutor, who made sure he had someone to put on trial for this before the election.
Does the television news media often blow things out of proportion and present them unfairly? Yes. But to just say that about this case after you admitted that you have no interest in it, leading me to believe that you have chosen not to read much of anything about it, is cliche, arrogant, and completely useless.
