i miss her more than usual these days. something in the air in springtime. its been a long time in the world of teenage dating. over 13 months now. i told her a few months ago that i had reached a turning point and that i was getting over her. what a joke.
this duke lacrosse case has really angered me over the past several weeks. no matter what actually happened, when two kids are accused of a crime of this severity, we owe it to our national conscience to give them the benefit of the doubt and the presumption of innocence. beyond that, this woman showed up drunk at the party, and was later characterized by the police officer who responded to the inital 911 call as "passed out drunk in the car." she has a criminal history and has everything to gain from pressing these charges and filing the inevitable civil suit. and by the way, there's a pile about a mile high of evidence that, if absolutely nothing else, clearly presents reasonable doubt that the accused are guilty. the judge should dismiss this case before the prosecution even makes its opening argument. and then the accused should sue every pundit and self-interested hack, starting with the good reverend jesse jackson and the weasely prosecutor michael nifong (who, coincidentally, is currently running in a tight race for reelection), for slander and character defamation.
