Adventures in Health Care Country

For the past few weeks, I've been fighting off a persistent (and annoying) cough. From time to time, I would also get tiny fevers — temperature jumps of one or one-and-a-half-degrees; not enough to incapacitate me but enough to be uncomfortable. As well, just about every morning I would wake up with either my back muscles or chest muscles hurting ( Read more... )

I am very sorry. If it's any consolation, they did the same thing to Garner's grandmother, who was 92 and had cracked ribs from a fall. She waited for 9 hours, most of them in either the paramedics bay or the hallway.

I would really recommend that you still keep that doctor's appointment and/or make another one, especially if you don't feel significantly better in 48 hours.

Don't make me worry about you. Get better!

I still have the doctor's appointment, as a follow-up to this ER visit.

That's good.

Are you feeling any better today?

I can't inhale deeply; that hurts the muscles in my side (that pain moves around). It's annoying, but manageable; I'm just breathing shallower than normal.

Ugh. What an ordeal. I have learned to bring a book with me on any hospital trip.

Glad you're recovering. My first thought was to race over with my puffer but it appears you've got that well in-hand.

Any idea what might have brought it on? What were you up to several weeks ago that might have led to pneumonia?

BTW, the way you wear it at a rakish angle, the mask looks rather dashing. Have you considered adding it as a regular item to your style wardrobe?

I always brought a book (and cribbage board, and water bottles) when I was taking chixxor to the hospital. This time I foolishly assumed that movies I had put on my iPhone were actually on my iPhone, and so was caught empty-handed.

At least I know all about the firefly named "Ray" now, so the evening wasn't a total loss.

I wasn't doing anytyhing out of the ordinary prior to. And no one has thrown the word "pneumonia" around yet; just "infection".

I just hope it goes the hell away soon.

Man, the ER sucks, pretty much everywhere. I'm awfully sorry, although I've got a few wacky ER stories (like the time I went in with my dad, and we were next to a bed where the doctor asked the lady "how long has your little girl had these stomach problems" and she said "Oh, about three years." This after we saw someone literally dying from a heart attack as he was being wheeled in. (How we know he died: We heard his wife screaming and crying. Yeeeeesh.) And all I was there for was an allergic reaction to petting a bunny. No lie.

Anyway I'm pretty sure you'll be okay, because I like you and I've decided you will be.
