I use a lot of odd phrases in my speech.

My husband thinks that I make most of them up, but I swear that I grew up hearing them and they come naturally. Using them effectively is a gift.

One of my favorite examples: Oh, my stars and garters!

I grew up hearing it. It is best used in rather mocking humor situations. It refers to honors and awards, specifically the Order of the Garter.

Likely, my grandmother never knew what it referred to or came from, but it was always great fun to hear her say it when I was very little.
