Warmth. For the first time in a long time there was nothing but warmth. No twinge of worry, no loneliness, no irritation. The soft rustle of cotton against his hair and the soft thud of a door shutting pulled the slumbering beauty from the darkness of his dreams. His ears perking at the sound of a lock clicking and when wait dipped the bed he groaned softly, rubbing at his eyes. He pulled with a hiss when his hand back quickly when his pinky brushed against his nose and a shooting pain twinged through his skull.
A cold hand enveloped his and his eyes slide open. Jonghyun's smile was soft and quite. So unlike the man Kibum had come to know, and yet so fitting. During their talks, He was always so alive. So vibrant and into whatever the subject was. Seeing him leaning over him with the light of the setting sun pouring in the window, his hair alight like chestnut fire, Kibum's heart tightened. Jonghyun was really beautiful.
"Be careful of your nose! Did you sleep well? Need some more pain killers?" His voice was low as he gingerly brushed Kibum's bangs out of his eyes.
Stifling a yawn, he answered, "Yes to the pain killers. Your bed is so comfortable. Did I really sleep that long?"
Jonghyun nodded, getting up and returning quickly with a glass of water and two white pills. "It's like... 7pm. I was thinking you could say the night if you like. Maybe swing by your place, pick up some take out and booze, watch movies?" His face was eager and his eyes large and wet while he waited for Kibum to swallow down the pills and set the empty glass on the bed side table.
Kibum weighed the options. Stay and spend time with the older man or go home and be alone while his mom slept after her shift? He was 18 after all. He was old enough to make his own decisions. besides, tomorrow was Friday, and he didn't have any classes anyway.
"I don't want to impose on you... but if it's really ok with you, I wouldn't mind staying." Kibum finally said, tugging idly at the sloped neck line of the borrow sweater.
Jonghyun's laugh was rich and bold, like the coffee he sold in the shop below. "I don't mind at all! In fact, I'd really appreciate the company. So, you want me to take you to your place to pick up an over night bag?"
----
Jonghyun was patient, leaning against the door frame of Kibum's bedroom as he threw clothes and personal products in his tote. His room wasn't bare, but simply styled. The bed loosely made and the desk cluttered with a few stray school books. The house he and his mother shared wasn't big, but it was nice. They were well off thanks to the hours his mother clocked and the money they'd received after his father passed away a few years back. With a smirk, he tossed his bag over his shoulder and turned to face the older man.
"Bag packed, mom texted, and all good." Jonghyun smiled a toothy grin and followed Kibum out the front door to his parked Hyundai. Not the best car ever, but it ran well, it was clean inside and out and Kibum couldn't help but notice that it had the distinct smell that Jonghyun carried about him. He rather liked it.
Jonghyun was a sporadic driver, heavy on the gas, but safe despite that. The pair arrived at a noodle shop and after loading up on two large portions, they headed back to Jonghyun's flat.
In no time, both men were in PJ's. Slurping down noodles, taking gulps of soju and watching some movie Jonghyun had pulled of his shelf. It wasn't a bad movie, just your average college humor comedy, but the conversation became far more interesting. Kibum was happy to be warm, pressed thigh to thigh under a blanket with his host. He had t admit, the alcohol was helping out. He felt elated and calm.
"If I asked you a personal question would you answer honestly?" Jonghyun asked through a mouthful of noodles.
Kibum felt his eyes narrow but he nodded. Why not? He cocked his head to the side and nodded.
"You like men, but have you ever gone all the way with a girl? or did you just know you weren't interested?" His eye brows were knitted in the middle of his brow as he gazed at the TV.
Kibum sputtered a bit, laughed and looked Jonghyun in the eyes. "Actually yes I have. I kind of always felt I didn't want a girl, but I dated a girl 2 years ago or so and I thought I might as well try it out. She broke it off with me because my 'heart wasn't in it' but eh!" A shrug of his shoulders. "I just wasn't all that into it. Men are just... better. Why, thinking about playing the field or something?"
He braced himself mentally for some kind of rebuke from the dark haired man but instead was met with a smirk and raised eye brows. "I don't honestly know. I may or may not have.. dabbled.. with guys."
Kibum's mouth opened in surprise and he found himself fighting a smile. "You're shitting me right now, aren't you?"
Jonghyun shook his head and laughed, "I'm not! I swear! It was only a little fling in college. I've been way too busy to actually try and figure anything out. And after I dumped my ex girlfriend, I just sort of left it open! I mean, I can see the appeal on both sides."
The younger laughed, doubling over and holding his noodles out as not to spill them. "That's so... that's really open minded of you honestly. I have to say, I did not expect that."
Jonghyun shoved at him lightly, narrowing his eyes despite the grin that was tugging his lips up over his teeth. "Way to be a douche about it! I tell you a not-exactly-secret secret and this is how you act. But hey, I am what I am ok? No point in denying it, right?"
The two knocked their soju bottles together at the sentiment. But Kibum's burning curiosity overwhelmed him, fueled by the booze. It was making him brazen and as he ran a hand through his hair he couldn't decide if that was a bad thing or not.
"So, have you slept with a guy then? Or did you just.. test the waters?" He was surprised by his own question, eyes going wide and plump lips pulling into a small 'o' of surprise.
Jonghyun was too obviously, his eyes becoming like saucers before he smiled and gave an answer. "Well, since you answered something personal... The one guy I got involved with, we never really got past just touching. We never had sex or anything. We were both really dominate so it just didn't work out. Dated him for a few months and called it quits."
A shiver trailed it's way down Kibum's spine and his head went a little fuzzy. So Jonghyun liked to be in control? How fitting... he shook the idea away and finished the last of his noodles. Maybe it was just Jonghyun's nature. That honest, easy going attitude he carried about him, but Kibum found himself completely at ease even with the topic of conversation. It didn't feel like dangerous territory with him like it did whenever his friend brought it up. It just felt natural.
"What about you, since we're on the subject?" Jonghyun's gaze was steady, full of innocent curiosity. His posture was relaxed as he rested his head against the back of the couch and tipped his bottle back for a quick sip. He grinned at the hesitant look on Kibum's face, taking his knee in a hand and shaking his leg as motivation. "Don't be embarrassed or anything! I just told you about my intimate experience, so open up! I mean come on, How long have we been friends? It's been around... 4ish months? Come on! We've talked about almsot everything together!"
Kibum sighed through a smile and gave in to Jonghyun's big pouting eyes. "Ok, ok. I've been with 2 guys. Like full out, we had sex and everything. But they were both meaningful relationships, not just hook ups. Only had 2 or 3 flings depending on your definition. We never really got past making out, because I'm not a loose man. And I'm all about safety. And thankfully, they were all dominate so i didn't have any trouble like you did. Thinking of it now, even my girlfriend had been dominate..."
His cheeks felt hot. Awkward. So awkward. He silently cursed himself for his habit of being blunt. If his nose wasn't already hurt, he had half a mind to slap himself. But Jonghyun sighed and patted his knee under the blanket.
"I have to say, I'm jealous! I'm only 4 years older than you but still..." His tone was casual and easy, no hint of discomfort. "But I would expect that from you, I mean, who could say no to a beautiful guy like you, right?"
"And you're any different?" Kibum found himself blurting out. "I mean, you're really hot. I don't know if you noticed but seriously. You can't possibly have any problems getting dates. People must throw themselves at you."
Jonghyun gave a soft smile and giggled into his bottle, eyes trained on Kibum's. He raised a hand to brush over Kibum's cheek, the younger man's heart beat racing. "You're so nice. And you're really cute when you're drunk."
"I'm only kind of drunk!" he protested, turning to face and jab a finger into the broad chest of the older man.
Jonghyun sucked in a breath through his teeth after a long moment and turned to face Kibum full on. The mood seemed to slide into a new frame, going from light and comfortable to heavy. Almost malleable with some kind of tension that even in his alcohol hazed brain, Kibum understood.
"I should be completely honest with you."Jonghyun brushed his thumb across Kibum's cheek and the younger man's eye lids fluttered shut, pressing into the warm hand against his face. Jonghyun wet his lips with a brush of his tongue and continued, "Talking with you all this time, these past months, has been the highlight of every day. It took me some time to admit it to myself, and now that I've come to terms with it I think I should tell you..."
"Tell me what?" Kibum opened his eyes and was taken aback by the closeness. Jonghyun had leaned closer, his brows pulled together in a soft frown.
Something seems to click behind Jonghyun's eyes and in the next second lips were sliding together. A low moan bubbled up from Kibum's throat and his hands wandered up, fingers curling into dark hair. The kiss was soft, languidly brushing together before Jonghyun pulled back with a sigh, carefully to avoid brushing the other's injured nose. His eyes were dark and his pupils blown out. Kibum felt his cheeks grow hot in a searing blush and he cleared his throat.
"I'm sorry." Jonghyun muttered though a barely concealed grin as he ran a hand through the younger man's raven colored hair and rubbed his big finger tips into the downy soft buzzed portion. "You're really gorgeous and I can't help myself. But I wanted to say, I'm kind of... into you. In case you hadn't noticed."
Kibum felt his chest puff at the declaration. He'd been dreaming of this man for months. And did he just kiss him? Was that a blush working it's way over those high cheeks? The answer was obvious before him and it was endearing. The flicker of insecurity that passed over his features as he waited for Kibum to reply. He looked so young, younger than Kibum even, with his features painted by doubt. How precious he looked.
"I'm glad we're on the same page then." Kibum found himself laughing lightly. A great weight removed from his chest.
Jonghyun exhaled slowly and smiled, covering his face with a hand. "Good. I was worried we were about to have an awkward situation. I'm really sorry I just kissed you like that. I should take you on a date or something first."
Kibum smirked, "I'm not complaining. And besides, We had dinner, you bought me a drink, and we even watched a movie. That's kind of like a date."
Jonghyun nodded and tugged on Kibum's hand, pulling the slightly taller man closer and wrapping an arm around him. The movie was only half over, but the sentiment still stood.
