The fangirl all the fanboys rend their garments and gnash their teeth over: the one who gets all caught up in shipping.
Although, wait, that's not actually true, because I love P&R for Leslie and for the feeling of the whole show, and I'm fannish about that. And I love Community for the ensemble and found family. And Firefly for the same. But I guess when I look at my last headfirst fannish jumps, they're based heavily on shipping: Due South (Fraser/Vecchio); Prison Break (Michael/Mahone); and now Persuaders (Brett/Danny).
I guess what's notable is the WAY that I participate fannishly. From a vidding perspective, I am fannish for all of these shows and more, but for fic, I only read (and have my own ideas) when I've got stakes in a ship. So it feels more like "real" fannishness then because fic writing is still the primary form of fannish interaction (at least in my fannish world). Not that vidding and graphics aren't as good (I say as a proud vidder), just that it still feels like fandom revolves around fic-writing as primary fannish output. I get why! I'm not being bitter, I'm just exploring why this Persuaders fannishness feels so different than my P&R fannishness. I have vid ideas for both, but only Persauders makes me want to read and write fic. And do long screencap posts showing the eight million times Brett and Danny touch each other in EVERY EPISODE. And flail in capslock for paragraphs on end about how much they love each other.
SPEAKING OF WHICH. 100 Happy Things List #14 -
14. That time Brett whistled "Danny Boy" in The Persuaders!
OKAY SO. This moment is the moment, as I was telling Dorinda earlier, where the show grabbed me by the heart and decided it would never let go. I watched just this scene (from "Angie...Angie") during lunch today and it filled me anew with adoration. It was, in fact, as amazing as I remembered it being. Danny is angry and hurt and being threatened and here comes Brett, whom he only recently met (I love a viewing order where this episode actually comes second or third, and it does feel like it's an early episode between them), and to let Danny know he's there, Brett whistles "Danny Boy." And Danny's face just LIGHTS UP because he knows who it is IMMEDIATELY and he's RELIEVED that Brett has come and so Danny springs into action and just gets GOING again. He's not HAPPY (the situation is too serious for that), but he's definitely REJUVENATED.
I'm not explaining it well. I'm not even sure just watching that bit would get across why it's so sweet if you haven't seen the rest of this episode in particular. JUST TRUST ME ON IT, OKAY? And while you're doing that, also take a look at Danny's FACE:
That's when he hears Brett whistling.
ALSO, thoughts on Brett being Catholic? Do we have any idea of Danny's religious persuasion? (At least in terms of their families, not necessarily them.)
(I sort of need it for POTENTIAL fic reasons. Because, see, let's say one were to actually write some of the Danny-as-a-ghost fic, you could start it with Brett being ferocious and sad at the funeral and then Danny shows up later like, "Why did you do that? You didn't want to go to that. I wouldn't have wanted to go to that. Not nearly enough weeping women." And Brett's all O.o and then Danny says, "and furthermore, your Lordship, I'm not even Catholic." But then I don't know what Danny is so I can't continue from there.
JUST AS AN EXAMPLE, IS ALL.)
omg y'all, I actually am REALLY SORRY now for the sudden Persuaders explosion on my LJ. You're always welcome to defriend me. I only have 10 more "new" episodes and then I will seclude myself with my vidding machine so hopefully I won't have to flail out loud quite so much. (Ahahah. Hahah. Hah. It could happen!)
