Since the P&R finale is on tonight, this one seems appropriate to do today. No spoilers!
9. Leslie Knope
I know I am new to Parks & Recreation, but I am SO HAPPY to be here. It feels, in many ways, tailor-made to have all the things I love most: it's funny but (rarely) mean about it; it's got a huge heart; it's smart; it's about people being dorks; it's about people being friends; it's about people being competent (even if sometimes that's accidental); and it's given me my favorite female character of all time: Leslie Knope.
Leslie encompasses all of the things I love about the show itself, and yet she never feels like she's unbelievable, like I couldn't just drive 1000 miles to Pawnee and sit down at JJ's and find her there. Amy Poehler (who ALSO makes me quite happy) embodies her with such realness. She has a best friend and co-workers and a boyfriend and dreams and flaws (real flaws, obnoxious ones that you love her for). She is funny and smart and competent and also hates librarians and has a terribly messy house and does dumb things sometimes, even if they're for the right reasons. She loves waffles! And sugar! And believes in people. She's like a less-restrained version of Benton Fraser.
I love her. I want to be her when I grow up. LESLIE KNOPE FOR PRESIDENT.
PS - I got her Pawnee book on Amazon and it is AMAZING. $8 so well spent. I would've bought it for more and not felt cheated. In case anyone was - heh - waffling.
