And
this post on Tumblr has made them all surge fresh again. So in that spirit, I'm going to dissect this set GIF by GIF. Because...um...I can?
In the one on the walkie-talkies, Michael HATES that Alex is right, hates that Alex has the upper hand AGAIN in this situation because he was SO SURE that he'd get free once they, y'know, GOT FREE, but here is Alex, always there messing everything up. And then in Season 3, it's Michael who has the upper hand, and he knows it - look at that LOOK he gives Alex. And things are gonna get ugly, because at this point, there is respect but mostly disgust (and some latent sexual attraction, IMO), and Michael is going to use his upper hand because Alex scares the crap out of him. This is before Alex has even killed a dude for him, let alone pushed Michael up against a wall and given him VERY CONFUSED feelings.
As Snow White and Prince Charming (ultimate fairytale OTP) say: "I WILL FIND YOU. I WILL ALWAYS FIND YOU." And Alex WILL. No matter where Michael goes, Alex will find him. IT'S KIND OF AMAZING.
Okay, wow, I need a minute because Michael LEGIT CARES about what happens to Alex here. He doesn't want Alex to be killed - and that happens at the end of season 3 (ugh when Linc pulls the gun and Alex is like, okay shoot me dude and Michael's face is like 'but..but...'). But here it's putting the whole mission in jeopardy and he CAN'T LET ALEX DIE LIKE THAT. BECAUSE LOVE, THAT'S WHY.
God, and his FACE when Sara makes that statement about "you really think Alex would risk it all," because Michael knows he would. He knows how Alex feels about him, even now, even all fucked up with the death of his son, that he's devoted to Michael at this point, chained by all the shit that they went through and the way their brains are basically intertwined at this point.
PRETTY SURE I DON'T NEED TO SAY ANYTHING HERE.
And right from the beginning of season 2, they BOTH are trying to get into each other's heads. What's great about this is that Michael is totally manipulating Alex here but he really DOES know what the pressure is like. Subconsciously, there is already this sense that they understand each other even if they hate each other, that the burden of being the men they are is something that they can ultimately only share with each other. Alex is TOTALLY the Darkest Timeline version of Michael, but what is SUPER DUPER AMAZING is how ultimately he also brings Alex OUT of that timeline and lets him become Gray!Alex instead of just Dark!Alex, even through horrific acts committed by/to him.
DEAR NON-PB FANDOM: THESE ARE ALL CANON MOMENTS. LIKE, THIS SHIT REALLY WENT DOWN LIKE THAT. UGH. UGHHHHHHHHHH.
SNARKOTP. Oh the snark is eeeeeeeepic. I love how just stupid and ridiculous they are, how they become EIGHT YEARS OLD with each other even though they're both kind of super geniuses.
akls;jfalskjdflaskjdflkajsf WORKING TOGETHER. Two chicks in a bar! Partners! Trust! KEYSMASH KEYSMASH KEYSMASH.
The MAJOR mis-step this pairing had was in the post-series movie where the writers decided it would be COOL TIMES BRO to try to make Alex seem like he would betray Michael. I'm pretty sure NO ONE ON THE PLANET actually bought that? But they wanted to throw in useless tension anyway? So I kind of HATE this because it feels SO WRONG at this point in their relationship. BUT I can also totally fanwank it as Michael just feeling so betrayed by EVERYONE that he's lashing out and Alex is totally an easy target given their history and also the actual depth of their connection so it hurts EVEN MORE and makes him MORE DEFENSIVE and Alex is calm and sad and a little hurt: "That's what you think I'm about?" Because in every way but flat-out saying it, he has said "MICHAEL I LOVE YOU, PLEASE FORGIVE ME, PLEASE LET ME HELP YOU WITHOUT WANTING ANYTHING MORE THAN TO HAVE YOU NEAR AND KEEP YOU SAFE and yet here we are again and I KNOW WHY but I HATE that it is happening." And I just boyssslkajsldkfjasdlkfjasldkjfalskdjfalskdjflaskjdflaksjdflasjdflaskjdflasjdf.
Whew. I feel better. I haven't done a good fannish post in too long.
I also would like to talk about Justified (loving it), The Walking Dead (I like this show better than 99% of fandom, I'm pretty sure), Community (it's baaaaaaack! I'M SO HAPPY), Parks & Rec (<3_<3), The Amazing Race (Border Patrol agents, I CAN'T EVEN WITH YOU GUYS, UGH), and how I own the new Muppets movie now but still haven't had time to watch it, but my fingers are tired.
Oh wait, I did have this screencap from season 3 Dante's Cove to share with you:
That makes me want to do a Screencaps of Glee review for Dante's Cove. So tempting to do all of it, given how short the seasons are.
OH. I would be remiss in not also informing you that you can pre-order Peter Mulvey's new album
The Good Stuff and I really think you should because he's been streaming tracks from it on his website and they're SO GOOD and his cover of Bill Frisell's "Egg Radio" is changing my life. I actually have the whole album on MP3 because you can get the MP3 version now if you buy it, so run, quickly, and make it yours today!
Okay NOW I'm done.
