Oh, right, it's my every-two-months "I'm sick of all things Internet-related" mental downshift, where I spend a lot of time reading and not very much time participating. My mood will swing back around again, but until then, some output:
1.
sarkastic made me
this Prison Break moodtheme and it's made my life approximately 1000% better just by its very existence. Look at some of the choices she made! They are GENIUS. (View the entire theme
here). And this moodtheme can be yours, too, because I wouldn't want to deprive someone of its awesomeness. *g*
2. On a related note,
Robert Knepper has a Twitter and for reasons that I really cannot justify, I find his first tweets completely adorable. I love him. I did not get to see Breakout Kings yet though - anyone catch it?
3.
This mashup of LL Cool J's "Mama Said Know You Out" and Dexy's Midnight Runner's "Come On Eileen" is...it should be listened to to be fully appreciated. It works for me!
4. I continue to lose precious hours of sleep to Dragon Age 2. I REGRET NOTHING. I'm still only in what I think is Act 2 (we haven't gone to the Deep Roads yet).
Fenris is proving to be a huge pain in the ass, but I'm trying to romance him anyway. For every +5 friendship he gives me, I seem to incur a +10 rivalry a few minutes later. I'm leaving him home right now and using either Bethany or Merrill instead for awhile. Not that this game gives many opportunities, it seems, to interact with the NPCs. Not as much as DAO. I miss it! I did download the new content that gives me the Mabari hound, though, and my heart is full of joy. I named this one Puck for no particular reason at all. Otherwise, the game feels comfortably familiar, though the fights seem a lot more difficult. The 'Night Lies' mission keeps KICKING MY ASS. I've done that fucking fight so many times already and still can't beat it. There's just too many of them. But I will persevere, dammit.
I have to admit that I miss Sten and Alistair though.
5. We went to Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium this weekend - gorgeous scenery views there and a nice zoo overall - and I happened to get this tiger picture. Something about his face just makes me think he's saying, "Don't MAKE me come up there and eat you."
6. Project 365 continues apace. I've missed about 5 days total since January 1st, but I figure I'll make them up at the beginning of next year. I also realize that now that the shiny newness of the DSLR has worn off, I really want to know how to make it work, so I'm finally getting into the technical side of photography. Early reports: I'm still fascinated! Which is a good sign. I get put off of things that require too much work unless I'm interested enough in them (I always found US schools fairly easy and almost never had to study; it instituted a long tradition of mental laziness I still struggle with today!). Having this early interest still means I'll be way more motivated to work through the harder/boring parts later. I'm still posting at
my Tumblr, although I hadn't posted any new pictures since March 1 until today, so there's quite a dump on there at the moment. I still have about seven more to post and then I'll be caught up.
7. Speaking of Tumblr - I'm finding it a really addicting site. It and Facebook are giving me a high input/low required output ratio right now that is suiting my retreating mood. And Tumblr is so very visual to boot, which I am realizing more and more is my preferred communication. Which was strange at first, considering I thought of myself as a writer for years and years. I imagined I was going to be a novelist one day. But I realize now that even when I was writing, I would visualize the events in my head and just be writing what I saw. The words themselves were never what drew me in. Which is why my writing always felt/feels very ordinary. I'm not in love with the words the way great writers seem to be.
8. Tumblr also gives me all kinds of delicious comics-related goodies. I've dropped my reading rate lately since I really prefer reading the actual trades instead of on my computer, so it takes me longer to get into these digital versions I have. Plus I'm all swept up in Game of Thrones and that's been eating up all my reading time (and then some!). But I THINK about the DC comics characters a LOT. Especially Babs. She is on my mind ALL THE TIME. She's reached Ray Vecchio character status for me. That's the point on my character-loving scale where I want to protect them and can't stand to hear anyone saying anything bad about her unless it's to point out some other way she is even more awesome. Like, I know they're not perfect? BUT I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT IT. Unless I know you love Babs exactly as much as I do, and then you can hash out some of her imperfections. Otherwise, BACK OFF. (This particular character bag is fairly empty. There's Vecchio, Babs...I'm struggling to think of anyone else I feel quite this overprotective of, fictionally. All my other favorites I'm willing to at least hear people talk shit about them, even if I don't agree. Maybe Kermit the Frog, too.)
9. Game of Thrones - man I had forgotten SO MUCH of what happens in this book.
Like Catelyn kidnapping Tyrion. QOT mentioned that to me in a comment awhile back and I was like O.o I DON'T REMEMBER THAT. Reading it now, I STILL don't remember it, but it's making me cringe terribly. She just arrived at the Aerie and Lysa is being all crazypants. I remember THAT. And also what happens to her. Sometimes I think knowing what's going to happen makes this re-read worse (emotionally) for me! Every Ned chapter breaks my heart. I'd forgotten how big of a dick Jamie was; killing Ned's men just to be spiteful! Yeah, yeah, he's worried about Tyrion. Didn't mean those men had to die there. I'm really getting excited about the miniseries. It should be interesting to see how they decide to film it - what to keep, what to discard, etc.
10. Community! I LOVE THIS SHOOOOOOW. Enver Gjokaj was great last week but I wish he could have had an even bigger role. And for longer. He should be on every show ever. The more I read about upcoming episodes, the more excited I get. Is it Thursday yet? I need more!
And that's all the news that's fit to type.
