"You're a cattle rustler, Mrs. Landingham."

I've missed a lot of birthdays over the last few days. Happy belated wishes to electrcspacegrl, kernezelda, counteragent, and raine_wynd! Happy today birthday to emilyisevil!

And of course extra-special birthday wishes to the extra-special danceswithwords. Smart, funny, AND she provided an oyaku donburi recipe I can't wait to try. *g* I'm happy that we'll be rooming together at bitchinparty!

I hope all of you had/have wonderful, fulfilling days.

I've been re-watching, for the first time since it aired really, Season 1 of The West Wing. Well, the first two episodes of it at least. Mandy is not as annoying as I remember her, although I'm glad she eventually left. Josh and Sam both strike me as more arrogant, Leo more terrifying, and CJ and Toby even more awesome. When Bartlett walked into the room for the first time, my heart swelled with remembered love. I find myself more sympathetic to Hoynes this time around as well. And MRS. LANDINGHAM. And CHARLIE. They cast the heck out of this show. Dr. Morris, for instance, who was introduced (and then killed off) in "Post Hoc, Ergo Propter Hoc." What a great character; I felt his loss.

Today is the first day of my Six-Weeks To A Healthier Me (SWeeTAHeM) plan. In case anyone is curious, here's specifically what I'm doing, food-wise:

I am eating a Candida-health diet (which means yeast-free) and also taking out my major food allergens as well. This is to get me to a place where I am healing some underlying, persistent, though not debilitating, health issues.

What I'm dropping
- All dairy except butter (milk, cheese, yogurt, whey, casein, etc)
- Chicken eggs
- All fruit (except avocados \o/)
- Clams
- Almonds & Peanuts
- Asparagus
- Yeast (leavened products)
- All sugars (incl. honey, molasses, malts, and all of the dextrose and whatnot that you find in prepackaged food)
- Mushrooms
- Fermented products (soy sauce, vinegar, etc)
- White flour
- Alcohol
- Caffeine
- Tomatoes

What I can have
- Fish, beef, pork, chicken, turkey, all the animal meats, basically
- Coconut (and coconut butter and milk)
- Lemons for salad dressing
- Garlic
- Rice cakes & unleavened breads (I found an unleavened rye I'm going to try)
- Walnuts/cashews/etc
- Bean soups
- Hot cereals
- Vegetables!
- Stevia (a sugar-free sweetener)
- Rice
- Duck eggs

So I'm going to a back-to-basics kind of diet plan, which means more food preparation/cooking - something I am not good at and don't so much enjoy. On the other hand, especially by cutting out all sugars, I should feel super-awesome in a couple of weeks. And it'll be fun to change my diet; I tend to eat extremely regular, boring meals (well, not boring to ME because I love them, but boring to y'all *g*), and this will be fun. I've pulled a couple of recipes (I am trying heresluck's jicama and cucumber salad this week!) and if you have anything in particular you recommend that meets the requirements, I'm all ears.

It's also been interesting to go into even local health food stores with an eye towards this kind of limitation and see that basically the whole middle of the store (all the prepackaged foods) is off-limits now. And even how closely you have to read things you thought would be ok. For instance, I usually get lunch meat at CostCo, but it has sugar added.

Also, Seattle folks - I went to Whole Foods and the Kirkland PCC yesterday and couldn't find duck eggs. Do any of you have a reliable source of duck eggs around here? I'd appreciate any leads!

Since last I posted I've watched more Charlie Jade (though I'll wait and post about that later), played a lot of Guild Wars, worked, and gone to the zoo. I went late, around afternoon feeding time, so the wolves were out. Here's my three favorite pictures from trip:

This was the Snowy Owl near the wolf enclosure. He was in motion and I didn't have time to get to Action mode.

'Sup?

And, I hate to end on a sad note, but: Roy Scheider died today.
