Thank you for the really fascinating answers to the last post. I ended up getting a bunch of work (of course) so I will get back to those comments today. I just wanted to share a couple of items and wish you all a very happy weekend.
I think almost everyone on my flist has seen these already, but just in case: New SG-1 photos! Spoilers, obviously, for casting and maybe plot but I really don't know that for sure. Nobody's dying or anything in these photos. Heh.
Look how thoughtful I can be. Uh, what? Rrowr. Article from Wired about the Decemberists music video,
"16 Military Wives" and using P2P networks to share it.
I'm not sure it's possible for me to love Al more than I do post-"Sold Under Sin." Someone in the comments to one of my earlier DW posts remarked that he's the type of man who will do what others like Seth and the Doc won't do, and what Cy Tolliver would need to be forced to do, and they were right. But I get ahead of myself. :)
Mister Wu - I actually expected Mister Wu to know more English than he actually did. It did allow us the rather hysterical scene where he and Al try to communicate about the "two white cocksuckers" who stole Al's dope. This episode, as with most of the episodes so far, had quite a lot of humor to leaven out the violence. Merrick's attempts to form a walking club (The Perambulators had me rolling) showed us that Seth actually can look more rigid and uncomfortable. Hee. I love seeing uncomfortable Seth. Sol, however, is as adorable and gracious as always. He's such the smooth operator. And we got another Seth/Sol porch scene! Woo!
I found the plot with Adams', the Magistrate's lackey, really interesting and I like how it tied in with the dope theft story. Those two dumbasses who stole the dope are really crappy human beings, but I appreciate that the show is being honest to how the Chinese were treated in that time period. I found Al's solution surprising, honestly, because Cy will use that to his advantage. Clearly Al gets enough out of his deal with Wu that it's worth it, though. Al doesn't make too many mistakes. And I have to say, as much as the fact that he goes about killing people all the time is a bad thing, I give him credit for at least doing a lot of the killings himself. Heh.
Jewel's Boot Is Made For Walking - I like that even Jewel gets her own story and hopes and character traits. It gives me even more faith in the show when they spend time on each of the characters, even the minor ones. Not only that, but we get to see new sides to the major characters, like Doc Cochran. Whom I also could not possibly love any more than I do. (Which is proven false when I watch him in 'Sold Under Sin' and love him even more.)
How adorable are Trixie and Sol? They're like two very adorable puppies, especially Sol. I loved Seth walking in on them and then just as quickly retreating. Heh. What a good friend. He was a complete idiot by telling Al that Sol was with her though. Seth fucks up, but at least he realizes it.
Al is probably the most fascinating character on television. Watching his highly unusual slide into drunkenness was like waiting for a huge volcano that instead ends up being a long, rumbling earthquake. That last scene where he rambles on and on about his childhood while the whore gives him a blowjob - man. I have so much respect for Ian McShane. Dude is amazing.
Sold Under Sin - This episode was incredible! So many things happened, and set up so much movement for Season 2. I'm glad Dan called Seth on his hypocritical request to have Alma's father killed. Because, dude, either kill the man yourself or just deal with the consequences of beating the shit out of him. So I was pleased when he took steps to protect the father later. I saw the sheriff thing coming but it still hurt. Of course, him taking on that role is precisely why I love the character, too. It's funny, because Seth really doesn't want to be a sheriff, yet he's exactly the type of sheriff you should have. I loved General Crook, and the brief, terrifying look they gave us at the cavalry. Doc Cochran should never ever be harmed EVER and I will be very upset if something bad happens to him. I loved him and Jewel dancing at the end; it was such a light-hearted end to the episode, but it somehow fit with all the other crap going around.
The scene with Al killing Reverend Smith was unbelievably moving, and his quiet, "You can go now, brother" really affected me. I love Al for, in this case, being the instrument of someone's peace. Doc's prayer just beforehand made the whole scene that much sharper. And Al had tears in his eyes! So much love.
I thought we'd get more about Eddie stealing from Cy (can I just say what a HUMONGOUSLY BAD IDEA that is? Ok then), but apparently they're leaving that for next season. Isn't Cy going to wonder where Joanie suddenly gets the money to start up her own brothel? Cy's a bastard, but he's not dumb. Methinks Eddie won't live all the way through Season 2.
Seth and Alma continue to have really good chemistry, and I continue to be fairly unmoved by their plight. I can't help but think, watching first Sol in 'Jewel's Boots' and then Seth in this episode, that those mustaches must be ticklish when kissing, because they're very prominent. Hee. Prominent. I'm twelve. Seth also continues to be incredibly pissed off and very hot, I'm sure the angst will look good on him. I am so torn about who I want Trixie to end up with, it's just pathetic. Basically it depends on who she currently is sharing the scene with, Sol or Al. Hee. And still no Jane, so I'm guessing she won't be back. Sigh.
Season 2 should be really good. I honestly have no quibbles with this show right now. Not one.
PS - For the Floscapers: Those cartoon Aeryn icons will be available this evening, once I get done actually making them. Hee.
