In case there is any doubt: THAT WAS WRONG. Those actions went beyond simply ignorant to all-out brutal, hateful mob mentality. There is absolutely no justification for that in any free, modern non-theocratic society, period.
It is cases like these that are why I am forced to be skeptical of people who claim to be religious; I am sorry, but until the Good religious people are willing to actively condemn hypocrites like those, I must continue to be wary of religion and its tenants (yes, those who live in it, not the beliefs themselves. ;) )
