Just to clarify, you can't leave B20 *between* panels to eat/use the bathroom. You can, however, leave DURING a panel (you obtain a bathroom pass at the exit, which allows you to return during the same panel's time slot). You won't lose your seat as long as somebody next to you is willing to hold it (and most people are cool). We did have one nightmare in the Indigo Ballroom where the staff kept pushing more people in and insisted that someone go sit in our row even though we knew the empty seat belonged to a guy who had just left briefly for a bathroom break. But such situations are quite rare. I think the staff was getting frustrated with people gone for whole panels on end. Bringing in food is no problem.

If you want good seats for the Dexter panel, camping out Wednesday is an excellent idea. Even if you don't get Preview Night, you can pick up your four-day pass at the Town & Country in Mission Valley and head downtown with it. It's best to avoid having to pick up your badge Thursday morning while the line could be moving or doing god knows what (plus, they won't let you into the convention center to use teh bathroom during the night without a badge in hand.) Bring some warm stuff for overnight, even in San Diego. It'll probably get dewy.

I camped out for the first time last year (previously, I did several pre-dawn arrivals). Honestly, camping was less stressful. I hesitate to recommend it as a way of life, lest people push it earlier and earlier until they're camping in January, but it was fun (if a bit noisy -- good god the freight trains! and the occasional group of geeks who wanted to loudly expound upon geek things at 3am!). '

Good luck! It's crazy, but it's fun. Be sure to sign up each person who wants tickets for a member ID as soon as possible, and it may really help to have multiple people in different locations trying to get in for tickets when they go on sale -- luck of the draw with lag and site slowness can be the difference between being 1,000th in line and 10,000th.
