Questions from a newbie

I am hoping to attend next year's Comic Con, which will be my first time. I want to start planning ahead, and to come up with a game plan.

Several questions, please don't shoot me.

1) First off, when buying tickets, are you able to "get in line" before the tickets go on sale 8:00 PST?

2) Probably a dumb question, but does the 4-day pass with preview sell out before the 4 day pass w/o preview? I don't care to go to the preview unless it's something I really wanna see.

3) How far in advance do you recommend booking my flight and hotel? It will just be me and my hubby, I think.

4) One of my top reasons for going is to see the Dexter panel, assuming they'll be back again next year. If they are going to be on Thursday again and in Ballroom 20, what time should I line up to get a GOOD seat? Yes, I am prepared to wait hours upon hours on end, and to sit through panels I don't care about.

5) While waiting in line, are food and bathrooms easily accessible?

6) Can you eat between panels in Ballroom 20 and go to the bathroom without losing your seat? Is food and bottled water allowed in?

Besides going to Comic Con, this will be my first time on the West Coast/California/San Diego, so I'm really anxious, and hope I can chill out during the trip.

If there are any other recommendations you have, please feel free to let me know. I am shitting myself now from reading all the stuff on the web, and I have many months to go.
