I swear. I mean, I think there is something seriously wrong with me that I can't even bring myself to update at LJ with anything remotely resembling regularity. It just indicates such a completely and totally inactive set of communication skills I'm starting to worry about this term at school.
Gah. Not going to think about that. Don't wanna think about that. I get panic attacks 'cause it's my last year as an undergrad and then I have to like, enter the real world or something. But I'm not thinking about it.
No.
Absolutely not.
So instead I'm going to remenisce about the third season of one of the best programs ever to come out of Great Britain. What am I talking about? Robot Wars.
That's right. I love to watch people drive meter cubed, remote controlled machines around an arena that are attempting to destroy each other. Why? Well there are several reasons. The most central of these is one Jonathan Pearce. That man is completely and utterly insane and does the commentary on the action. I mean, where else would you hear someone go on about Panic Attack causing Spawn of Scutter to go dancing with Matilda as Spawn has a panic attack caused by his entry into the CPZ where Sir Killalot lies in wait his eyes gleaming with malice?
I kid you not.
Another reason, at least back in the early seasons, was to hear how they were introducing Craig Charles (Yes, the guy from Red Dwarf) this week. "Please welcome the real reason they had to save Private Ryan." Does anyone want to know? Probably not.
Then there's the Diotoir boys from Ireland with their flammable robot, matching felt vests, headbands with red, polkadotted, felt horns and intriguing, yet rather disturbing, matching codpieces. There's the Ming team who come every year dressed as Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon and Granny's Revenge which is literally a paper mache granny on a wheelchair that has had a remote control added to it. She usually catches fire and gets tossed into the Pit of Oblivion but it's great fun nonetheless.
Is there an American version of Robot Wars? Yes. Does it suck in comparision with the British one? Hell yes. Without Phillipa in the pits, Craig hosting and Jonathan in the crow's nest the commentary lacks the necessary flair and I have yet to see anything on the American Wars as good as the Sir Chromalot team with their cheerleading squad, theme song, tuxedos and thoroughly useless robot.
Any show where you can watch grown men play air guitar dressed in tuxedos in between watching robots get destroyed by other robots is a good thing.
