L. Melvin Landreth, 75, died June 16, 2007. He was born April 9, 1932, in Van, the son of Irene and Lewey Landreth. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Patricia Dubert; and one nephew, Lamont Landreth.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Glenda Cooper Landreth; two sons, Melvin Don Landreth of Conway and Brian Aaron Landreth of Roe; one granddaughter, Renea Hanson (Travis) of Selig-man, MO; three great-grandchildren, Eli, Malachi and Kristin; three sisters, Ruby Shook and her husband, Leon, of Casscoe, Myrtle Dempsey and and her husband, Arvin, of Almyra and Gladys Law-son and her husband, Clarence, of Liberty, MO; three brothers, Howard Landreth and his wife, Deanna, of East Camden, Ken Landreth and his wife, Nadia, of Flower Mound, TX, and Stan Landreth and his wife, Carolyn, of Cabot; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was an active member of Southside Baptist Church in Stuttgart. He served as a deacon, taught a boys’ Sunday school class for many years and served on many committees. He graduated from DeWitt High School, then served in the U.S. Navy for four years achieving the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. He served in Japan, Korea, Alaska and the South Pacific during the testing of five atomic bombs and one hydrogen bomb.
He retired from farming in the mid-1980s, afterward working in automobile sales for many years. He was an avid hunter and really enjoyed being in the woods. He was treasurer of the Roc-Roe Men’s Club for many years.
Funeral services were held June 19 at Southside Baptist Church. Bro. Gregg Greenway officiated. Burial followed in Almyra Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
