He got his driver's license yesterday. \o/ One very excited sixteen year old drove home from the BMV and he didn't even make me sit in the back, although the thought crossed his mind.
Then I went to the Apple store to spend my iPhone rebate. I got myself an external hard drive, a cable adapter for the iPhone-to-car link, and Popcorn, having been told by the Apple lady that this is what I need to convert .tivo files to editable files. After long discussion.
"How do I get my .tivo files into iMovie so I can edit out the commercials?"
"Well, it's not designed to do that."
"I have Toast. I have TivotoGo. I have a Mac. I'm allowed to burn the shows to disc. I just want to edit out the commercials first. There is no point burning the shows if the commercials are still there. What do I need to get them into a form iMovie can edit?"
"It's not designed for that."
"I don't know why they include iMovie. It's useless." I'm getting pissed. Can you tell?
"Well, most people use it to edit their home movies."
Me, thinking, "Nobody want to see/have that many home movies. That's just wrong. Unless you're a grandparent, who the fuck wants to see other people's home movies?? Looking at baby pictures from time to time is nice. Sitting down and watching home movies? Not so much."
Me, aloud, getting to the nitty gritty, "I think they're MPEG2 files. How do I get them into a form I can edit?"
Apple lady goes away, asks someone else, and comes back with "Popcorn. You need Popcorn."
"K. Thx. Bye."
I bought it but haven't installed it yet because I'm still not sure it's what I need. Internet research has not been terribly helpful, not at the Roxio site or the Tivo site. There must be a way to edit out the commercials. I have SnapzPro and it does do video. I may try that before Popcorn 'tho I'm not sure what it will do to the audio. *shakes head, mystified* I did download an update for Toast last night. I guess I should try that first. Maybe they've fixed the problem. Maybe pigs will fly.
We ended the day freezing our asses off at two soccer games. When the boys told me they had a game at four, sun still up and would I please bring the dog?, they neglected to tell me that the varsity game would be followed by a JV game. It. Was. Cold. I left between games to take the pup home and feed her (and leave her there because she was pesky) and don my long wool coat, scarf, and gloves. BRRR! She enjoyed the game and all the people and barked when everybody cheered and really wanted to go play with the kids and chase their big white ball around the field. At halftime I threw a tennis ball for her and wore her out a bit. Then I took her over to the dog water fountain and she caught on right away even though she'd never used one before. Such a smart puppy!
Anyway, final score: Varsity won 3 to 1. JV lost 2 to 1. Good games but they needed to be played earlier in the day. I'm still cold.
