Batman/Iron Man kidfic plot bunny (spec/spoilers for TDKR, Avengers)

I'm not writing this, but I had to get it out of my head...

Background: Captain America was the first modern "superhero". After he was KIA and the Second World War ended, the world turned to comic books and radio shows and movies for their superheroes. Batman was the second modern superhero, but the complete opposite of Captain America. Batman operated in the shadows, a vigilante that the government refused to legitimize. Next came Iron Man aka Tony Stark. Unlike Batman, Tony didn't believe in hiding his identity from the public. But he and Bruce weren't so different, otherwise. Their families had moved in similar, elite circles. The two boys attended the same boarding school until Tony's early acceptance to MIT and Bruce's expulsion for fighting. They were both genius billionaire playboy philanthropists. One other commonality: neither believed in asking permission from the government to do the things they believed needed doing.

Bruce Wayne: Based mostly on Nolan!Batman, only I'm pushing back the events of Batman Begins so that Bruce is ~40 years old (on par with Tony) and has been fighting crime as Batman for over a decade. He's slightly less grimdark than canon because he's had Tony as something of a support system since before puberty. Tony wasn't the greatest at being a friend, but Bruce remains desperately secretively appreciative of every fumbling attempt Tony's made over the years. (I'm drawing heavily from AlchemyAlice's When they finally come to destroy the earth (they'll have to go through you first). Ignore the fact that she demoted Rhodey three ranks.)

Tony Stark: No different, only he's been in a nominally open and ill-defined relationship with Bruce Wayne since not long after Bruce's return to Gotham. It didn't take Tony long to figure out Bruce was donning the cape and cowl since he knew Bruce's playboy persona was misdirection. Bruce and Tony have become more serious since Tony's kidnapping in Afghanistan and his subsequent coming out as Iron Man.

After the events of TDKR (which I still haven't seen, so I'm guessing here) Bruce hands the mantle down to John Blake or whoever, and starts spending more time in New York. The move was prompted partly because he'd nearly lost Tony in the Chitauri attack and partly because he'd come across a young Asian girl, maybe nine or ten years old, who had incredible fighting skills and no ability to communicate verbally.

Bruce and Tony adopt the girl (Cassandra Cain, because if I'm going to write kidfic, Bruce has a few canon progeny to choose from instead of picking on poor Peter Parker all the time, seriously guys) and raise her primarily in Manhattan, with Bruce taking her to Gotham whenever his duties took him home. Bruce is the primary caretaker and has a close bond with Cassandra. Tony, unfortunately, has been unable to find common ground with her except in their love for Bruce. ("I made you a robot pony! I booked Justin Bieber to sing at your birthday party! None of the other kids have robot ponies or Justin Bieber! I don't understaaaaand.")

At first Natasha is wary around Cassandra because, hello, daughter of a known assassin, trained by him, living in their midst. But of course she is also incredibly empathetic to Cassandra's situation. They bond over being raised as child assassins and Natasha, like Bruce, is able to interpret a lot of Cassandra's body language.

(Ugh, I really, really need to sleep. And stop procrastinating on everything. I move back to school on Labour Day.)
