fannish5: Five favourite examples of going meta/breaking the fourth wall

fannish5: 5 greatest (or favourite) examples of breaking the fourth wall, or canon material going meta.

I've got a paper due on Monday so I'll keep the commentary to a minimum. Here they are, in no particular order...

  1. Stargate SG-1, "200": The whole damn episode is hilariously meta! Here's a clip of SG-1 dressed up as the characters from Farscape.

  2. Saved By the Bell: Zach Morris, breaking the fourth wall since 1989! (There was no fourth wall-breaking on Good Morning, Miss Bliss, iirc.)

  3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer: BtVS went meta on more than a few occasions, though much more subtly and never on the scale of Stargate or Saved By the Bell. My favourite moment of those occasions was Tara holding up a finger puppet of a monster and saying, "Grr, argh." It was just so cute. :)

  4. Angel: Lorne in "Spin the Bottle" and "Not Fade Away", our host and narrator, singing his heartache to us. Doing one last thing for Angel before walking away, saying, "Goodnight, folks."

  5. Criminal Minds: Everything about JJ in the episode "JJ" was pointedly meta. The writers and actors skewered the CBS executives for "excessing" AJ Cook. There have been other moments of meta, again around the departure of female characters/actors. The CM folks? They know how to deliver a classy smackdown.
Honourable mention: Every time Castle goes meta with Firefly jokes. *g*
