blackeyedgirl and I just got back from seeing As You Like It performed by Shakespeare's Globe, which has been touring since May, I believe. Tomorrow is their last night in
blackeyedgirl's city before they move on, so I'm glad the timing worked out to let us see it. What a wonderful performance! Really funny! With many more musical interludes than I'd realised were in the play. They were good singers and musicians, as well as actors.
I've always liked As You Like It. It was the first Shakespeare play I read--an the abridged version, anyway. One year my church gave out pocket copies of Shakespeare plays and classic novels, all in comics form, to all the kids as Christmas gifts. Very few of the other kids wanted their comic books, so I collected a whole bunch of them. I thought Rosalind and Celia were awesome. Especially Rosalind dressing up as a boy and fooling everyone. :D
Now I'm tempted to re-cast AYLI with either Stargate or DC Comics characters. Not sure how it'd work--I'm having trouble finding direct parallels for all the characters. And while I'd love to do a slashy version with John/Cam or Tim/Kon, I don't know if Rosalind's role really works if her crossdressing is reversed. Hmm.
I don't have a Shakespeare icon any more, so here's Snape in Augusta Longbottom's clothes. CROSSDRESSING FOR JUSTICE. (Also, I saw HP7 Part 2 at Odeon at Leicester Square on Wednesday night. In 3D. Will post my thoughts on it after I get home and re-watch again, in IMAX instead.)
