Some random thoughts as I slowly make my way through Season 5. (Yes, I'm watching S5 now, after watching the first half of S6 and scattered eps from Season 10. Pretend I'm a Time Lord.)

You know, that's been my exact problem with James Marsters in everything I've seen him in post-Buffy or Angel. It's not that I see Spike. I just see James Marsters. I feel like that might have been the one role he was actually able to disappear into.

Or is it because we saw him as Spike first, and then fandom made us so conscious of James Marsters the actor that now we can't un-see him? If I'd never watched Buffy, maybe I wouldn't have a problem with Professor Fine/Brainiac.

OTOH, I don't watch Castle and think, hey, that's Nathan Fillion or Malcolm Reynolds. He's just Rick Castle. Hmm.
