So... Basically, Chloe's actions in Season 8 are consistent with her characterisation? And the choices she makes re Davis, and the behaviour/attitude she exhibits towards Clark flow organically from who she is as a person, when she's at her worst? I can definitely see how certain traits of her personality are played out to their logical, horrifying conclusion in "Doomsday". I mean, I'm reading a lot of Season 8 meta and I agree with everyone who says Chloe isn't exactly being OOC here--just taken to an extreme.
But wow, it's really, really hard to like her any more. I mean, I felt really bad for her in "Stiletto"? Because she's been sucked into an abusive relationship and I can understand her feeling trapped and having very few choices. Still, she has some choices, one of which is to not be in that relationship. She has friends who would be willing to help her, if she'd just ask for it.
Oh, Chloe! You were one of my favourites! *sad face*
From the spoilers I've read for Seasons 9 and 10, the SV writers totally copped out on a dark!Chloe story-line, didn't they. *sigh* If you're going to turn one of your characters dark, you have to actually do it. Embrace the descent, work through the issues, then bring them out the other side. None of this hand-waving all over the place.
ETA: What I'm disappointed about, essentially, is that Chloe never gets a climax to her character arc. She never gets to confront herself and experience true catharsis--instead, she gets a hand-wave and her arc is left dangling while the writers put a bow on top and called it wrapped.
(I suspect the Darth!Willow/magic-as-crack arc on Buffy is going to look like genius after I'm done with Smallville.)
