You know I have a "love-hate" relationship with Smallville. (Love the fact that they made a series out of my favorite part of the Superman mythos. Hate the fact that the show started out intriguing and then died a l-o-n-g, slow, boring death.) So it's always interesting for me to read other people's reactions to it. And even though I haven't been commenting, your posts, plus the CW's rerun of the pilot the other night, have got me doing thinking about it again ( ... )

Hey, I'm glad you're enjoying my posts! Most of my flist has long moved on from SV, so I wasn't sure anyone was reading. SV isn't a great show, but there are some fun/interesting character and relationship bits, especially for people like us, who love the original. *g*

the show had lost me with the "Adventures of Clark, Lana, and Lex," but they did manage to bring me back in the season they introduced Oliver.Yeah, my SV re-watch focuses on the Lois eps from S4-5, and now all the Oliver eps from S6! I'm not really watching for arc at this point, except as it relates to Clark/Lois or Oliver. It's great Clark has someone else who knows his secret, who can challenge him on a hero level. I love their more mature give-and-take -- it's what I'd wanted from Clark and Lex, and never got. (I rarely believed in the Clark-Lex friendship, even in the early years. There's a lot of talk about epic friendship, and not a lot of actual friendship. Kinda like Clark/Lana in that way ( ... )

I like GA, to be honest! I picked up Kevin Smith's run and a bit of Judd Winick

Yeah, I heard that was pretty good. Unfortunately, Mike Grell turned me off the character so badly, I just couldn't go back. I've caught bursts of him here and there where I liked him in other ensemble titles, but as a headliner, I still get heartburn whenever I try to buy one of his books. I have Mike Grell disease! :)

I want to like him though, because I have fond memories from the Denny O'Neill GL/GA years. So I was happy that I liked JH's portrayal and the way SV used him.

but ED is my LoisI think my problem with ED is that when they brought her on the show, they brought her on as a version of Lois that I've always hated in the comics: the one who has no time and no respect for Clark Kent. I'm assuming that's changed now that they've let her learn his secret, just like it did in the comics. But it was such a step back for me, I just couldn't take it, especially since the actress seemed to be enjoying the caustic vibe a little too much for my ( ... )

Mike Grell disease, heh. I'm *so* over the whole dark edgy anti-hero thing. Ugh. Just give me plain old heroes with realistic issues and I'll be happy. I haven't seen all the Oliver eps on SV yet, but so far I've really enjoyed him.

Ah, see, I'm less familiar comics!Lois, who has been married to Clark for years, and more familiar with live-action!Lois (Teri Hatcher, the movies) and toon!Lois. She's a lot more dismissive of Clark when they first meet, and what really gets to me is their slowly developing relationship. They learn to trust each other, and become friends over time, which I find very convincing.

Ooh, I've actually tried to steer clear of the Doomsday plot because I feel it warps Chloe's character so much. Hmm. I could give it another shot.

Hee! I kinda hope they put him in tights too. God, I hope they borrow the look from Superman Returns, though I suspect it'll look kind of ridiculous ( ... )

Hmmm...that might be a concern for you then. I didn't really care about Chloe or how it impacted her, to be honest. I was more like "Hey, why didn't you cast this guy as Clark Kent instead of TW? He can actually act! I mean, just watch him stand there and practically drip with conflicted angst. Then turn on a switch and flip over to cold menace. Then back to 'Oh, Noes. Scared puppy. Someone, protect me'..."

*Blinks*

Um, is it hot in here or is it just me?

Yeah. I think I might have been a bit biased there. :)
