I went over to my friends' house for dinner. Interesting traditional Czech food, roast beef with HUGE bread-like dumplings, smothered in a vegetable sauce, topped with cranberries from a can. I wish I could remember what it was called.
Good Auntie: It was Gabby's birthday earlier this month and I gave her two outfits for her
Zhu Zhu pets. She loves those things!
Bad Auntie: I was playing with Alex and let go of him for two seconds, and he did a somersault right off the couch! Head first! Thankfully he landed okay, and he took couch cushions down with him and kind of landed on those. *hangs head in shame*
It's not Friday any more, but here's my
fannish5: Name your 5 favourite fictional marriages.
1) Duncan MacLeod/Tessa Noel, Highlander: Common-law marriages count, right? They might not have gotten a wedding, but they were wonderful partners who trusted and supported one another. She was the love his life, and he was the love of her life. I'm in love with how in love they were. They were passionate and had awesome sex *g* and worked together, built a business and a home together, and opened themselves up to friends who came and left, or in Richie's case, came and stayed.
2) Worf/Jadzia Dax, Star Trek: DS9: To paraphrase Pierce, Jadzia added water to Worf's personality, and Worf added stone to Jadzia's. They had an awesome, fascinating courtship. I know some fans disagreed with Jadzia being forced to adopt Klingon culture, but my opinion is that Worf is already deep in her culture--Federation culture. They both live and work on her turf, while Klingon culture is the "alien" or immigrant culture. Anyway, the Klingon wedding was awesome! *g*
3) Clark Kent/Lois Lane, Smallville: Last week I wouldn't have included Clark/Lois on my list, but my recent SV binge has convinced me that they deserve to be here. I was never a huge Lois fan (you gasp in horror) even though I enjoyed Lois & Clark and liked Teri Hatcher. But comics!Lois didn't always work for me, and I never quite bonded with toon!Lois, and so I convinced myself that I would never really grasp Lois-the-character. But Erica Durance's Lois knocks my socks off. She and Tom have crazy chemistry to go along with some decent writing. It's been a wonderful journey from mutual hair-pulling to love, trust, and partnership.
4) Benjamin Sisko/Kasidy Yates, Star Trek: DS9: I liked how normal this relationship was, compared to most of Trek's romances. It wasn't a will-they, won't-they thing between co-workers--instead, Jake decided it was time his dad started dating again. Dating turned into romance turned into commitment and a life together. Yes, some politics and betrayal happened along the way, but for the most part? Refreshingly normal! I loved Sisko and Kasidy discussing race relations in "Badda Bing, Badda Bang". It's important to remember they weren't just another Trek couple--they were Trek's most prominent black couple. (The second most prominent being Sisko and his first wife, Jennifer!) I love that Avery Brooks put his foot down and told the DS9 writers that Sisko would be back, that he wouldn't abandon his family, and that Kasidy waits and is a mother to Jake.
5) Sandy Cohen/Kirsten Cohen, The O.C.: They were adorable. The show threw a lot of crap into their lives, a lot of backstabbers and selfish friends/family who got in their way, but for the most part they weathered the storms together and came out stronger. Plus, they were very loving, very believable parents to Seth and Ryan.
ETA: I totally forgot Sarek/Amanda Grayson, Star Trek. Now that was a marriage!
Day Twenty-Five: Favourite mother/daughter and/or sister relationship
Once again, I fall back on the Buffyverse to answer these questions! Below are four pics of Buffy, Dawn, and Joyce Summers.
I also loved the Bartlet daughters from The West Wing. Admittedly, a lot of my love for them is personal canon and speculation--all three were relatively minor characters, and while well-drawn and well-acted, they were hardly the show's focus.
Zoey, Ellie, and Liz Bartlet, The West Wing
From Star Trek: TNG, there's the fabulous Lwaxana of the Fifth House of Betazed and her half-human daughter, Deanna Troi. Despite Lwaxana's constant worry over Deanna's marital status, it really was a wonderful, interesting mother-daughter relationship.

Honourable mentions go to the mother-daughter relationship between Lady Ilane and Keladry of Mindelan from Tamora Pierce's Protector of the Small series, as well as the sisterhood of Sandry, Daja, and Tris (and Briar, only he's a boy and doesn't count for this meme) and the mother-daughter relationship between Lark and Sandry, in Tamora Pierce's Circle of Magic series.
