I can't really say... a big chunk is about how hair can grab attention or stand out.

And for me, it's also having the right hair for you. As you noted, making CC blonde just didn't work at all. Charisma is a brunette - and with her dark eyes and dark skin tone, that blonde is really jarring. Instead of complementing her, as rich brown does, it clashes. Doesn't work at all. Jessica Alba blone isn't as bad, but it still doesn't work. I can't imagine Eliza blonde working either.

OTOH, SMG I've seen with brown, blonde and red hair (and goth black in a Stone Temple Pilots video) and she seems to have the eye color and complexion to carry them all off. Actually, she looks better to me with the honey blonde than her actual light brown.

I will admit though, that there's an ethnicity effect in it for me. Navi Rawat, or Parminder Nagra, and such... with darker complexions I'm looking for darker and darker hair. Whereas I can appreciate more variations on lighter colored women. For whatever reason.

* And Janel Maloney has a nice figure, but a funny looking face. Also, Amber Benson doesn't do it for me either, because I think her eyes are distractingly weird. I'm strange.
