No Pain, No Gain

I hit him fast, hard, and with the utmost precision. In three quick strikes, I sprained his wrist, broke a rib, and dislocated his knee. But in doing so, I'd made a few feints that he hadn't even bothered to defend himself from.

"What's going on?! He's not even TRYING to defend himself," I thought.

Then he started chuckling. "Is that all you've got?" He raised himself off the ground, and casually popped his knee back into place. "That was NOTHING," he spat. "I was beaten every day as a child. For an hour after I got home, my father would hit me, over and over and OVER again. If I tried to run or hide, he would just find me, and hit me even longer. I don't know why he did it, but until I finally killed the old bastard, I had to take it. And I got tough. Nothing hurts anymore. Nothing!"

"So, just to be clear about this, you're saying there is NO way I can beat you into giving up?"

He glared at me from behind his sunglasses. "Never."

"Okay, just wanted to be sure." I dropped back into my fighting stance.

He bellowed, and charged me. I snapped his neck as he went by.

As he crumpled to the ground, I said to the air "No sense letting things drag on then, right?"
