Adam reached out a hand, brushing it lightly against Beth's face. Adam still couldn't believe Beth was real...
Beth dreamed of fantastic, impossible things. At the moment Adam touched Beth, the dream shuddered, crashing, and became a touch more mundane... something Carl immediately noticed.
Carl hated Debbie. There was nothing else to the hatred, no reason, no end, no point. Carl's hatred for Debbie was more primal, more basic, more fundamental than hunger, than fire, than quarks... it was perfect and unchanging, like the face of god.
Debbie screamed, and threw a mug at Eugene. Eugene managed to duck the mug, but was unprepared for the coffee pot Debbie had thrown immediately after.
Eugene dreamed of nothing, felt nothing, knew nothing. Eugene was inert, but not lifeless. Though no thoughts beat through Eugene's brain, the blood still beat through Eugene's heart.
