Burnt With Water (And Missing K)

Klutz, me: I dumped an entire kettle of boiling water into my lap sustaining second degree burns on about an 8-inch by 10-inch portion of the more sensitive areas of my body. It hurt like Hell for a few hours, then the pain stopped, but there is considerable blistering and scarring happening. The doctor has me applying topical silver four times daily to minimize scars. This comes on top of lungs that don't want to work properly.

Today is K's birthday. I spent most of last night and today on the telephone with him. I miss him terribly, and I wish he was here. He has been moaning about being "almost fifty", which is ridiculous, since he is three years younger than me, and I am nowhere near fifty. Well, not that close.

To cheer me up, a friend gave me salmiak dropjes and boeterkoek from The Netherlands. Now, if only Uncle Tom would come through with the bananas and muskies he promised.

Dr. C. (my ophthalmologist) says that due to the deterioration of my vision and the unlikeliness of corrective measures being an option, I may be able to eventually qualify for tax exemption on my property. This would not be effective until probably 2008, so I still have to somehow pay the taxes until then, but it is certainly a welcome glimmer of hope.

Finally, Rhoda, if you are reading this, call me soon..
