Cartoons...

Yes, those cartoons.

I finally got to see them all, and it leaves me at even more of a loss at the whole uproar. Most are drawings (several not even caricatures in the true sense, just drawings) of a bearded man with a turban. Exactly two of the twelve mention the word "mohammed" somewhere in the picture; the others could be about any arab-looking man. Of course, I do not know the exact context in which these were originally published (but hey, neither do the people in the Middle East, I'd hazard a guess), other than what is mentioned in this article in the Guardian or what is mentioned in the open letter on the original newspaper's website. But if you ask me, you have to be really, really really touchy to take offense of the flagburning, embassy-torching, death threats kind, even if you take into account that such drawings are against islamic rules.

Note how both articles mention the existence of non-published, apparently far more extreme drawings making the rounds in the Middle East... Smacks to me like someone is using this issue for their own incendiary agenda...

The world would have been a better place if we had never invented religion (and no, that does not equate a belief in a higher power).

ranting, randomness
