Over the weekend, I caught sight of a meme, that of course now I can’t find again… But it went something like this: reveal a fact about one or more of your stories that the average reader might not know or suspect from reading the story. Since an excuse to talk about fic is always welcome (… and I don’t think I’m up to the DVD-commentary meme…), here goes.
Did you know…
that my Buffy story
Eternal Dance was really a farewell fic for my old cat, Charlie? I didn’t even realize it myself when I wrote it while waiting to hear back from the vet about some test results, but in retrospect, that’s when I knew things weren’t going to turn out well. And I wrote the whole thing, start to finish, in one setting in one afternoon.
that my LotR novel
The Long Road Home is not only my first ever full-length fanfic novel, but that its predecessor Gondor’s Son started out as an attempt to make Boromir be alive so I could play him in an online RPG?
or that the sequel to Gondor’s Son (no longer available as a separate story since it merged with the sequel to become
The Long Road Home) was based on the rather odd imagery of Boromir fighting orcs dressed in nothing but a towel? From there on out, it was just a matter of getting to that point…
that the Charmed novella
Confessional was the first story for which I designed something resembling an outline? Which consisted of an actual schematic drawn on various pasted-together pages?
or that
Confessional is the first story in my new archive to receive a star rating?!? (w00t, that news is hot of the presses, I just noticed it right now. And the rating system works! I’d tested it, but the real proof is of course in random readers hitting those stars.)
So, what are your story secrets? Care to share?
