For once I get to post about a suit I made for myself! :) This is Inoku the Pandaren warrior:
One day a couple years ago I was doodling various random fursuit designs and I ended up getting onto a Pandaren kick. For anyone who doesn't know what a Pandaren is - they are a non-playable panda warrior race from the World of Warcraft.
http://www.wowwiki.com/Pandaren I dont have much patience in playing the game, but I do enjoy some of their character and monster designs. After coming up with a couple sketches I liked, I decided to make a personal suit based on one. I built his head and then became distracted by life, regular fursuit work, house renovations, etc.... Inoku's head sat quietly waiting until last fall when I got some ideas to finish the rest of the him. This year I finally debuted him in January at Further Confusion. I had a fantastic time!!
I really enjoy this character. He was a lot of fun to make and he's a lot of fun to perform. He's bouncy, dynamic, and easy to play around in. There's a lot about the suit itself that I experimented with. The body structure is quite different then most fursuits; it allows for a huge range of mobility. That was a challenge because there's actually a fair bit padding in the suit. In order to balance out the size of his head, the arms and legs are these big bear-like masses. They're really light and flexible tho, so they're a blast to wear and move around in!! :)
Eventually, I plan on making several outfits for him. His big oversized hat is going to be first. But I also plan on making some more realistic asian-style armor. Also a japanese style kimono kind of outfit. And several entertaining props to play with. He seems to be popular with people in and out of the fandom. Tho admittedly, having random drunken hockey fans rushing up to get pics from the "Kung Fu Panda" is just amusing. I don't mind tho. There seems to be an endless range of performance ideas for him. I think Inoku is going to be a lot of fun for a long time to come!! ^.^
As always there are more pics of this suit in his gallery on the One Fur All Studios website -
http://www.onefurall.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=140 I hope you like Inoku. I'll be bringing him to most cons and some non-convention events. Now if I could just find a good bamboo forest to roam in....
