Todays post was intended to be posted yesterday, but yesterday became consumed by one of those unique types of distractions that are simply unignorable - we burst a pipe. It's funny how the impact of something like this never occurs to someone until they've gone through it. Plumbing issues have multiple sorts of complications. First, there is the "Oh my, why does it sound like it's raining indoors?" phase. The source is identified, the plumber called, and then comes the frustration of not having running water until the repair is done. Drinking water, showers, and being able to flush the toilet all become unavailable and the problem becomes rather sucky. We were lucky, at least this particular leak was in the electrical room of the house - which isn't in our basement suite. Still.... it screwed up yesterday quite nicely. :P Anyways, onto the post for today - Nimbus! :)
Nimbus is a Clouded Leopard suit that I made for
Aeto. This realistic-style commission is one of a particularly satisfying type. In our initial discussions Aeto talked about how he wanted the suit to be playful and fairly easy to work with. At the same time he was interested in subtle digitigrade legs, muscle padding, and the detailed set of leopard markings distinctive of the species. As time and discussions went on I began to realize that this suit needed to be quite heavy in both realism and animalism. A suit like this is quite a comprehensive challenge.
The first stage involves researching the species. I'm big into research. When presented with a project like this I always try to learn as much as I can about the animal, how the markings work, what sorts of individual variations can occur, etc... Then comes the task of translating the animal into something that is reasonably buildable within the parameters of the commission. In this case the markings needed to be modified to work on a humanoid build and also scaled up hugely - clouded leopards are just slightly larger the house cat sized, and Aeto is well over six feet in height. The whole project flowed together quite nicely, but it was also a great deal of work!
I'm very happy with how he turned out tho! Aeto was a great person to work with, and the character came together really well. Nimbus has a good sense of realism to him, and also caries the personality that was asked for. Best of all, Aeto seemed to be having a great deal of fun with him at FC! ^.^ For more pictures of Nimbus, check out his gallery on the One Fur All Studios website -
