Hello, and welcome to another episode of "Let's Play Suikoden Tierkreis!", Lady Nighteyes presiding. Last week, a couple of cool people bailed us out of some serious trouble, then suggested an alliance. This time, everyone talks about it.
Most of the player characters, plus Asad and Chrodechild, can currently be found standing around so you can have conversations with them, but I'll try to only show you the moderately interesting ones.
Sorry, guys, leaving you for last.
Moana has priorities.
Also, I can finally pick up all the mission rewards. Not that I really needed them, since they all turned out to be money, and I'm not exactly short of that.
I promptly get back to wandering around.
Going to the castle's "backyard" triggers a cutscene.
Sieg: You goin' back to the village? Without even tellin' us?
Why, yes. Yes you were.
Dirk: Thanks for saying that. I feel a little better.
Sieg: Hey, what's the matter? Ya seem a little weird.
Dirk: Nothing's the matter really.
Somebody's trying to change the subject.
Dirk: If you get the chance to learn from them, you guys can be even better fighters. Good luck!
Sieg: Then why don't ya join us too, Dirk? C'mon! Let's fight together!
Dirk: I'm gonna stay and look after Citro Village while you're gone. Can't leave the place undefended, right?
Transition to:
'cause you're jealous?
Dirk: Who's there?!
How did she get here?
Dirk: I...
Diadora: This is a future you never would have imagined in the past, a very unfair reality. That's why you can't accept it. That's why you can't forgive.
Dirk: But... I...
...And then it fades away as Diadora walks towards him.
THAT was ominous. And thanks to the Blade at the front gate who stops you if you get onto the world map, I can't do anything about it except run back up and talk to Chrodechild and Asad.
Chrodechild: If you decide to form an alliance with the Magedom, your position will be similar to ours in that regard. We no longer have a home to protect like your Citro Village, however.
Sieg: No longer...?
Chrodechild: Have you ever heard of the Kingdom of Astrasia, to the west?
The world map won't let us go west yet, I'm afraid.
Chrodechild: It was known as a small but valorous country. Two years ago, however, it surrendered to the invading Order.
Yeah, I guessed.
Chrodechild: We fled after failing to defend our homeland, vowing to one day defeat the Order and revive our country. We then joined the Magedom and here we are today.
Sieg: .........
Chrodechild: So I well understand your desire to defend your home.
Talking to her again gives you this:
Let's go say hi to Asad.
Sieg: Huh?! How did you know that?!
Asad: Logan and Hotupa told me. And they said you went to Cynas to learn more about them.
Sieg: Yeah, that's right. But we didn't end up findin' out anything.
Except how much I can rant about philosophy and storytelling.
Asad: Well, to tell the truth, we have a similar sort of book in the Magedom.
...Can we have it? PLEASE? I need to get Liu an attack spell so he stops being useless.
Sieg: You do?!
Asad: I actually don't know very much about it, but I hear the magic our Mage Forces use is a product of research on that book.
Sieg: Really?!
Probably safer than asking the Archivists.
Talking to him again advances the plot.
There's not much else I could do, so...
This shouldn't really surprise anyone.
...Well then.
Apparently.
Sieg: Don't get me wrong. It ain't like I don't trust ya or anything. It'd just feel weird to form an alliance with somebody I never laid eyes on or talked to before.
Chrodechild: Quite understandable.
Asad: His Lordship, too, always prefers to meet with delegates of his allies.
It deeply distresses my inner Grammar Nazi how this game insists on putting two sets of quote marks around things.
Sieg: The sooner the better, right? We never know when the Order is gonna come back.
Marica: Yeah, yeah. You just want to see the capital of Janam, I bet.
Sieg: Well, there's that too. Plus I just heard from Asad that they have a book like ours in the Magedom.
Marica: They do?!
Sieg: Going to Cynas turned out to be a bust, but maybe we'll learn something this time!
Asad: Will you bring others with you, Sieg?
Sieg: Hmm... I want to leave as many people that can fight here as possible, in case the Order attacks again.
Good, because you're who I would have stuck in my last party slot anyway.
Pfff.
After the messages telling me that Marica, Asad, and Chrodechild joined the party, the scene inexplicably shifts so the group is closer to the front of the room.
Chrodechild: It seems the Order is retreating to Grayridge. There is no need for us to remain here now.
Sieg: Got it!
Hooray for Suikoden II in-jokes!
No it doesn't. It'd be too long for the naming screen. :::PPP
I am not naming it "Whatever Company."
The moment of truth. What will it be?
Yeah, I know, uncreative anticlimax, considering I've mentioned this a number of times. I've got a better idea for the castle, I promise.
Ahem. That would be ME.
Sieg: Right?
Anyway, back in control now.
These two are, obviously, way higher-level than my gang. They're both offensive powerhouses, though Asad is less kickass than he could be because no Mark = no fancy spells, despite this being blatantly contradicted by the story. But that's still okay, because his attack stat is high enough that he's able to deal pretty good damage with a staff, too. Plus, well, he's way higher-level than me. Chrodechild, for her part, is just one of the more powerful physical fighters in the game, period.
Off we go.
(Unrelated to anything, I don't think I showed you guys the roof yet, so here, check out this gorgeous scenery.)
Just going to add Erin real quick, even though I probably won't need her with Chrodechild and Asad around to kill everything for me.
Asad chimes in when we leave the castle.
Chrodechild: His Lordship is very busy. Our friends here may not be able to get an audience without advance notice.
You're only just thinking of this?
Asad: I believe you are right.
The Blade who stopped me from trying to rescue Dirk from Diadora's evil smile has a name!
Also he is apparently a sneaky ninja.
Must... resist... urge to make The Princess Bride joke...
See what I meant about Asad saying nice things about Chrodechild?Though he's entirely correct on this one.
Indeed.
Uh... yeah, that's... totally what I'm going to do immediately.
Next time: to Janam. Nighteyes out.
