I don't remember the weapons research botanist and his two kids very well, but it strikes me as likely that Lippti and Teo see in those two kids analogies of themselves, since their father was, as I recall it, also a Thaumatech specialist. The framing of the screencap where Lippti and Teo show up, right above the kids, suggests it. They hope that nobody else will have to become like them and suffer their fate.

Also, Viola's still alive? She truly is the Valkyrie. Given that you killed her like twice.

They're from that one sidequest asking you to fetch info about how to grow plants. Y'know, the one that decided to make you feel like crap whichever option you chose, and only give you the right choice on your second or third time through that point. And yes, that's pretty much exactly what they said during that quest.

Viola is awesome. I am SO glad she made it.

I'm still not sure whether I love or hate that sidequest; because when you think about it, that one little FETCH QUEST might do more good than the ENTIRE REST OF THE GAME. I like it because of how it's the small changes blossoming into huge consequences that characterise time travel stories, and I like it because it shows that peace and technology are what can truly save the world... but I find that I DON'T like it as much because it makes the entire rest of the sacrifices seem even more futile than they already were.
