this post is about the games
I do want to do a game by game, but with the coming school year, who knows if I'll get around to it. I don't think I'm going to come across as lucky a set of draws again any time soon, so I do kind of wish I had taken more advantage of them. I had a lot of stupid lucky combinations, and a lot of places where I just had to thank the tile gods and move on. I broke 500 in seven games (6-1), and averaged 434 points/game, which is FAR above my usual tourney average. I had 9 opening rack bingos. I was only double blanked once (and won because he tried two phony bingos).
Played most of the tourney at tables 10 and 11, right on the cusp of falling to mediocrity, while also on the cusp of really getting into contention. I had no streaks of more than a couple of games at a time, so it felt like treading water.
I lost three games with three bingos (vs jmallick 421-505; vs bbstenniz 403-466; vs Jim Kramer in the last round, 508-521). There were four games where I needed a different tile to come out of the bag at the end (for PROGENY against conrad, ANOOPSIA against will, and just the chance for different scoring/out situations in games against Jim Kramer and Tony Leah), but I had so much good tile karma, it almost feels like I didn't deserve to get those final lucky draws. I clearly need some more pre-endgame, and a LOT more patience for the important moves. I've quackled a few losses, and yeah, I made mistakes, but whatever. I made some good choices and some bad choices, and I'm going to learn from all of them. It makes me hungry for more.
