As much as I grumble (and I do grumble quite a lot) about the cold and darker nights of autumn and winter and how I complain about my hands turning blue and all of that nonsense, the darker nights mean a lot of traditions amongst my friends. Here are a few of them I'm looking forward to:
1. Bonfire Night
Is tonight, last year I ran about Teacastle excited as a kid at christmas who saw the hidden power ranger action figure on top of their parents wardrobe because of fireworks. Second year of this one, its a baby compared to the rest. We all wear at least 4 layers, lola and I compare tights and jumper ratios. We go to Glasgow Green and stare blankly at the sky for half an hour, we wander around playing hook the duck and then head off home for a cup of tea and a slight desperation to be warm again!
2. Big Trip to Edinburgh
German market at christmas means mulled wine, a wander down to Armstrongs to buy hats and (if you're Fi) gloves... We wander to the fudge kitchen and try on the straw hat of the boy who works there and the mitre for a table for how many people we can fit around it for steak pie and chips! Big wheel and joiner french optional!
3. Talking about the panto
I want to go to panto, no emails back and forward just lets go! Every year, third year now, we all talk about panto and how good it would be but where is the panto? Its not behind me. Nope.
4. New Year
How good was new year last year? Come on, admit it, it was great. Sparklers, running about outside at 1 am shouting happy new year at passers by, the brownies, the milkshakes, the singing. Everyone bringing in the bells together!
This year might bring new plans, new faces to old plans and new stories. Its an exciting time!
