It's the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back today. I think I need to watch the trilogy on my new big tv to celebrate. I'll have to figure out where I put the dvd copies I picked up that have the original version (or the least-fucked-with versions). In trying to make space for the tv alot of my dvds were pulled from shelves and are now mixed up in different bags around my living room.
I went to The Good, The Bad, The Weird at the Lagoon three times last week. There were several groups of people I wanted to see it with, but didn't want to try and organize all of them to get to one showing. After the first viewing I was looking forward to each repeat viewing. It's far and away the best action movie I've seen in years, and possibly the best western too. The plot was a little bit light, but the action wasn't dumb. I went into it thinking it was going to be mostly a remake of The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, but it was its own movie. There were a ton of Sergio Leone references sprinkled through the whole thing, but they weren't overwhelming or the main point of the movie. With each viewing I noticed more and more cool little things. I can't wait for it to come out on bluray. I also really want a copy of the soundtrack.
I really need to clean this weekend. My living room has too much stuff in it. I have to figure out how to organize things better. It'll be interesting to see if I manage to actually clean or if I break down and do fun things like watch the man with no name trilogy instead.
