Hard times

Could you imagine if you had the dream of making it pro in some sport. You had the skills, and you had the love for the sport. You thought you had you life all planned out, but one thing ruined your dreams of becoming the big-time.

Your playing some soccer enjoying the day. YOur running around kicking the ball, thinking your life is great at the current time. Suddenly, you fall and feel a sharp pain in your leg. You don't think anything of it, but the pain keeps getting worse. After a while, you think you should take a visit to the doctor. Your nervous, thinking you are seriously hurt. The doctor orders X-rays, and says you might have seriously hurt something. He then sends your for an MRI to see if did major damage.

YOu hear the worse new you could possibly hear, you have torn your ACL. YOu are in need of surgery, and your dream of playing sports is slipping from your grasp. There is a slight chance that you could play again, but the recovery time for the surgery is 12-18 months, and the soccer season starts up in only 3 months. You start to wonder if you can live your dreams of playing anymore high school sports, let alone going pro.

You have your surgery, knowing that you might be done for a long while. Your friends have been telling everything will turn out alright, but you refuse to believe them. YOur in extreme pain for a long while after the operation, and your hopes are starting to fade. You then go to physical therapy, and the pain is more than you have ever felt before in your life. This causes you to wonder if you will ever be able to walk again without the harsh pain you are feeling rigth now.

Your leg is getting better, and your hope is starting to return. You still have only 2 months left until the soccer season starts, but you don't think you are going to be able to play it. It's your senior year, and you have lived all your life for this moment.

Fighting on for another month and a half, you see a great improvement in the condition of your leg. The doctor basically says you are well enough to play, but he isn't sure how long your leg will hold up. Not to mention the risk of making the injury worse than it currently is. You fight, doing physical therapy, telling yourself you can do it. Your determination and love for sports is what is keeping you going. You can see your dreams coming back as the days go by.

Three and a half months later, you are playing soccer and have scored a goal. You honestly can't believe you are currently playing soccer. Playing on your high school team, as the captain to cap it all off.

This is the story of one of my good friend, and my idol. Jill Ellison, senior at Holly High School.
