NaNo - Day 10 - More thoughts

Nov 10, 2010 10:54

Having finished THAT whining bit of sad-sackiness (last entry), more NaNo observations.

I like what I have. My story is a supernatural thriller, focusing mainly on Egyptian gods and similarly magical beings in the modern world. It's part murder mystery, part road trip, part Harry Potter-meets-The Crips.

I've flown in a variety of characters and situations from other things I've written in the past: the lead character is from my never-done comic "Bad Blood". The short story about the mummified cat appears here in a tighter, more modern form, as will the contest of wills that was the short story, "The Poet's God". The short story "Isis: Case 43207" will appear in a muted, in-the-corner kind of way. All of these sources are at least ten years old. They're getting some nice brush-ups to go into this story, even though some of them are largely diversions from the main thread.

I'm also adding in some cool fantasy elements. I don't typically touch fantasy, but I'm trying to write the sort of thing I would want to read if I did. My main character is a PROPER BASTARD, which has been fun to write.

(This entry is a total Neil-Gaiman's-gazebo.)
