Review: GV7

Because I suspect my latest review of a poetry documentary may not make it to the site that commissioned me for it, here is my review of Bob Bryan's "Graffiti Verite 7: Random Urban Static: The Iridescent Equations of Spoken Word".

It was not kind, but they've gotten a review from me before and it was somewhat tough, so I have faith.
To that end, I ( Read more... )

Hello Scott Bob Bryan here anonymous July 21 2008, 20:04:19 UTC
Great Scott, Bob Bryan here! Sorry about the Anonymous tag but i don't have an account with LiveJournal. So what's all the fuss about? I heard from Loida that some people are mad because someone posted up some positive reviews of GV7 (it's hard to control where stuff ends up on the net once you publish it). I'm sympathic to spam as i receive over 800-1,000 pieces of it a day (thank god for my spam filter ( ... )

Hi Bob. I'll admit, I was the one who expressed distaste when I got one of the many e-mails from Loida about reviewing the DVD. My concern remains that, to all appearances, the person posting anonymously here is not some random "fan," but rather someone directly involved with the DVD, as evidenced by the direct lifting of text and quotes from the Web site, and the similarity of diction of promo materials used to sell the DVDs. (Like I said, I've gotten a lot of e-mails from you folks, between this and the previous DVD, which I reviewed.)

Frankly, this smacks to me of a manufactured conflict to generate buzz, and I'm uncomfortable further reviewing your products until I'm sure that's not the case.

Victor I can assure you that the idea of " a manufactured conflict to generate buzz" is a lttle strange and in a way too sophisticated a marketing ploy for a little indie production organiztion like us.

Well, I didn't say it was done well. (:

But jokes aside, I'm willing to take you at your word.

You're way more trusting than I am, Victor.

While I'm not saying it was Bob Bryan that posted those comments, I find it almost impossible to believe that these comments don' come from someone involved in he process, be i actor, producer, key grip, whathaveyou.

How would a fan boy even have found this LJ?

Oh, you're probably right. But I've dealt with the man before, and I think we basically understand each other. His PR strategy from day one on these DVDs has been driven by good will across the Internet, getting bloggers to talk about them. And now he knows this particular action will generate bad, and will prevent people -- his own, anyway -- from writing about his DVDs in the future.

"Anonymous" up above may well have been someone involved with the DVD, but I suspect it won't happen again any time soon.
