The bug
Uh-oh: not one week after my nups and I'm already thinking of where I might read later this year. I've already lined up the last week of this month out of the blue and have gigs spotted through the early part of the year, but I think I'd like to take to the road again for a gig or three. I've only done NY once (and only at the Bowery Poetry Club) and have had offers to come recite at some other spots when I'm that way. I may have to make myself go that way, you know? I can't very well keep this torrid love affair with Patricia Smith going if we don't actually meet, yes?
Of course, I still hate traveling, which makes this a comedy of errors for the most part.
Pacing my art schedule for the year pretty decent so far: preparing to really expose the night some more, and lining up resources so that I can do the live breath show in the spring.
I've been carrying on via email with a local musician about downtempo and what-not and it's really compelled me to focus the energy in that direction come spring. My music CDs outsell my poetry CDs and I don't even advertise them. You do the math. I'll line up some gigs, go to some places I've never been before...it'll be a good art year. Have to think about where I'd like to go, who I'd like to meet.
Got to go: I have to iron a shirt for the reception tonight.
